There have been some serious conversations of late about me restoring some order to the boots and hats room, so yesterday I did.

I’ve been trying to find a suitable diversion for Mrs. Hats as an answer to my hat room, and I finally found it!!! She’s not a collector of anything, really; more interested in activity or sports.

But then THIS showed up in the Real Estate section of the Wall St Journal...



We could never afford a home like this, but I can do a candy room...

The only things I see missing are a "Whiskey library", a mini-fridge & a keypad on the door.

The Adventurebilt boxes are way too pricey and the other boxes don't have inserts. There are plenty of places to buy hat boxes inexpensively, but there's nowhere to buy the inserts.

I've made several inserts from strips of cardboard and then covered them with tissue paper. Pretty simple really.

Yes, I buy storage boxes from "Michaels" craft outlets (often on sale 2 for 1)and cut an insert from cardboard and duct tape inside. The boxes have hinged lids and Velcro closures.

Hi fellow Loungers.

How do you guys store your hats when not on your head?

I've been wondering about the best or at least a good way to do this.

I've seen some of you pack them in plastic, while some have them stored on top of one another on flat racks. Others have them lying around the place like me.

The problem is, the more hats you acquire, the less space to store them. Especially when you have a small apartment like mine.

I thought I'd start this new topic so we could inspire and learn from each other.

I bought this hat stand recently and set it up today. It's my current solution.

I have another plan of screwing old wine bottle corks on my walls and hanging my hats on them.

Looking forward to hearing and seeing fellow FL'ers solutions.

Most in boxes. Many on hat blocks or stretchers, some on stands, some on hooks and some on each other.

Some on whatever is handy.

Boxes would be great if I had them with the hats. Sadly, only two boxes. Both top hats.

This is indeed a situation that might easily qualify for a prenuptial codicil. I am blessed with a wife who is both understanding and organized. I have my hats—most of them—in the boxes you see on the photos. Most of the boxes I believe are from the Container Store or BB&Beyond and have visible plastic openings. These see through openings are excellent for seeing the hat and for organizing by style or material. Other hats I’ve kept in their original boxes from VS, Optimo, DelMonico, Worth and Worth and JJ etc. My longsuffering wife has yet to tell me I have too many hats. She has pointed out, on occasion, that I have only one head; which seems to be getting pointier with each passing year.

We have a forced air furnace that creates a fair bit of ambient dust in the house. If I stored the hats open on shelving or hat racks the brushing would be continual. I buy boxes at Michaels craft store and cut out cardboard ovals that I tape inside the boxes so I can store the hats crown downward.
