The mailman dropped off a new N1 from Pike Brothers last night, a Bangor Green in medium.
It's a boxy fit with room to layer, which is just what I was looking for.
I have a Buzz Rickson and an RMC N1, and they are what I would consider slim fitting compared to the PB. The PB is also a bit shorter, which I don't mind.
The sleeves are very long for me, so this will probably get a trim at the tailors.
I am very pleased with the value on this one.

Has anyone removed the USN stencil on a cheaper jacket. My kid has been wearing my rmc. I’d like to get a non stenciled budget option for him or remove the stencil.

It looks like @Tomwiththeweather has at least toned down the lettering.
Fortunately, the lettering doesn't bother me.
Maybe sew a patch over it? Or paint over it with matching fabric paint?
I did an experiment. Last year I bought one of the Mil-Tec N1s and liked it quite a bit, except for how non water-resistant the definitely-not-bedford-cord fabric is. I never had water get all the way through to my shirt, but the thing definitely spent long hours hanging to dry after a rainy day.

So I coughed up the €75 for another one in Navy to see how these take a wax treatment. Slurped up about 3/4 of a can of Barbour thornproof dressing, and ended up looking… almost identical. But it worked! Water beads up and rolls off, more or less like you'd expect a Barbour to. Haven't got to test it in a real downpour yet, will report back.

I have to say, I'm pretty happy with my low-cost model.

And with my other one as well.

Be thankful he wears anything cool. My 15yo only wears sweat pants, hoodies and suits - nothing in between! I keep offering him my old jeans and jackets for him to roll his eyes at hahah
We’re that way 98% of the time. I was out of town and he was up visiting and grabbed my duck jacket to use. I’m just trying to run with it.

Yep, I removed the stencil from my Mil-Tec using acetone and a knife. Probably could have removed 100% of it, but I thought the ghost letters looked kind of cool so I left it

Looking at the Red Tornado size charts and 38 mostly works for me (true 38” chest so 44” sounds comfortable), but I’m not so sure about the shoulders. My shoulders are around 18” (or even 18.5”?) and RT list 18.5” for the shoulders on size 38. Add in the bulk of the lining and that’s going to be too tight, right?

Picked up this Stevenson Overall Co. NG-1 Navigateur Deck Jacket from Corlection.
https://corlection.com/products/ste...oth-navigateur-hooded-deck-jacket-solid-black
The thing that drew me to this jacket was the detachable hood. I'm not much of a watch cap person so I greatly prefer the hooded version as compared to a traditional N1 deck jacket.

Some initial impressions compared to my Iron Heart N1 deck jacket
-The cut of the SOC jacket is less boxy and overall goes better on my body. The IH is boxier and not as ideal of a fit for me.
-The whipcord fabric on the SOC has a much softer hand feel. The IH is tough as nails while the SOC feels a touch more luxurious.
-The SOC is much lighter in weight. The IH is a heavy *** jacket, but it's also warmer. The wool pile in the SOC isn't nearly as thick as the IH. SOC has wool lined sleeves unlike the quilted sleeves of the IH. I think I prefer the quilted sleeves because it does make it harder to slide on over layers. The SOC is something I would layer with in sub freezing temperatures, whereas the IH can stand on its own with a t-shirt.
-The hood! I love this thing. It's wool lined and can be adjusted with a drawstring. When the hood is attached, the collar has to be popped up, so you have the wool on the back of the neck as it blocks the wind. Very nice feeling.
-The pockets of the SOC are not wool lined like the IH, so not as warm. However, I much prefer the placement of the pockets on the SOC. They are further forward toward your belly button and it makes it easier to stick your hands in. I like the piping on the sleeve and pocket hems as well. It makes getting in and out of the pockets much easier.
-The SOC has the zipper on the right side as opposed to the left side on the IH. It's also a more typical zipper size vs the oversized IH one. SOC wins for me here.
-The SOC lacks cinch tabs and a drawstring, but it fits me well enough that I wouldn't need them.

Overall I'm very happy with my purchase even when factoring the deficiencies compared to the IH jacket.
