Do any of you have suggestions for high quality knit vests/sweaters, such as the ones shown in the pictures below. I'm having difficulty finding anything that is not mainly synthetic and flimsy.

Just an idea, almost any town (well here anyways) has a knitting club, where I live it's called "knit and natter". I'm sure if you contacted such a group you could find someone who could make you one in whatever colour and pattern you wanted, I'd would be cheaper and no doubt better than shop bought.
Or, you could teach yourself to knit. I did and here's my first project.
