Hi, Rick, why not invest in some hat trees (also known as coat racks)? They're a great space-saver and you can get them for pretty cheap at Target or Walmart. Then throw out all the boxes (not the nice hat boxes).

Hope you can figure this out, Rick. Let us know how it turns out. Some of us really need to know.

I hide my boxes in an elevated storage area in my garage. The hats are delicately stacked three at a time with spacers along the very high top shelf of our walk in closet going all the way around. Tonight, I hear my wife yell out from the closet, "Oh God! I've never looked up before. I didn't know you had THIS MANY hats!" Woops.

Perhaps the time has come for us to put our hatted heads together and develop a definitive, knockout-punch reply to the inevitable question, "Why do you need so many hats?" Someone else start.

Tell me what I am lacking (Brand or Model) above to make a more comprehensive collection of felts!
I am not that many away from attaining all on this list.
But I know I have missed something(s) of significance.

I have "my room" which was originally dedicated to storing and displaying my cowboy boots, a quiet place to get away and fool with my guitars but now, since I've made so many new "hat" friends, I'm having to move hats or boxes just to put on a pair of boots.

Oh yeah, as I write this I'm looking at my acoustic Guild sitting in the dining room.

NO MORE!

I recently bought 50 of the above in an effort to impose order upon chaos, seen below.

I plan to line the boxes with acid free buffered tissue paper in an effort to keep the hats out of an acidic environment. And then stack 'em like soldiers on a parade ground.

Thoughts?
Looks like your gonna have to rent climate controlled "self storage" space and rotate seasonally.

Rick; I deliberately stay away from a list. Both with guilt of having "too many riches," and from never having to explain the "riches." I make sure my wife hears each purchase and my rationale. I get my approval in advance. In fact she has guided me away and even towards other hats to purchase. I have started to "adopt out," sell, and trade hats that I have lost interest/passion with. The perspective of always looking for others and releasing those needing another home is healthy at my house. Each house is different.

Oh man, I would never stack all the boxes in one room. The vision might be disturbing. I have them spread out in my wardrobe, office at home, office at work, cabin, auto, boat and vacation property. This works to my favor of having more than a couple.

I suggest purchasing more vacation property so that you have locations of which to store. Say each location could house 50 hats, you appear to need there locations. My advice - three properties.

Every wishing to be helpful. Best wishes, Eric -

Soooo... What you guys are saying is that this not the way to do it huh?
.... Then I probably shouldn't turn around and take a pic of the 5 stacks behind me that sit directly beside the 5 stacks of vintage drums.
You may wear the same look of disgust my wife often wears when she walks in my studio :)

Same problem here, only here it's hats, guitars, and books. BTW, what kind of Guild? I've been lusting after the F-412 for some time now. I play one in a nearby shop every now and then and can never get over the sound.

At least you have proper hatboxes. Most of my hats are in brown cardboard boxes since hatboxes are not available here.

I'm still working it out. As a scientist/engineer with a mild case of OCD, I do keep a detailed spreadsheet of my purchases, and photos of all of my hats. I don't mind the boxes, but I need a dedicated place for them. Right now, they're piled on my desk and file cabinet, as well as in the "workout" room (which has become a catch-all room. Plus there's the hat tree in the dining room, the hooks in my paltry little closet, and some wig stands around the house where they are displayed. Couple that with my wife's now-burgeoning collection of hats (I seem to have rubbed off on her), and well...

My wife and I live together in a big ol' house built in 1896. It's ****** amazing how we seem to fill up every nook and cranny!

Perhaps the time has come for us to put our hatted heads together and develop a definitive, knockout-punch reply to the inevitable question, "Why do you need so many hats?" Someone else start.

I'll go with Sir Edmund: "Because they're there."

That's all I can come up with off the top of my head.

No surprise I'm going to tell you to add Dalton to that list.

Unless you're a 7 1/4, then back away from the hat and call me. :D

tropical bob, it's a Westerly, RI made DV6 which is solid mahogany, back and sides. Third Guild I've owned. Had a DV52 which I let go during a brief period of insanity and an F47CE which was a great guitar but I don't miss it the way I do the 52.
