Over the years Ive found a few Akubra models through Salvation Army Stores down under, that dont seem to have ever been sold here ( Maybe Australian market only?) Used to get some good prices through them, but the shipping costs recently have really cancelled out any savings on the hats. The “Reily” model must have been a short run as I can’t find any around. With a 2 3/4” brim and a 4” crown (center front) it is basically a compact version of a Snowy River.

That one was scrunched when I got it....Steamed and ironed the brim a bit flatter and worked some creases out. Has amazed me how much steam helps a hemp braid hatRickP: ...I've got several Stetson Hemp Stratoliners and Open Roads...They have a neat appearance, hold up great to moisture, and come in a bunch of colors...
Nice!!! Gently modified Stratoliner?
I got that one too and had the exact same reaction. Great minds and all.Got this email last night from the Hattery (hatsdirect - home of the FED IV) in Katoomba, Aus.
It seems they are doing free global shipping for the rest of the year on orders over $150 US! That is a sweet deal!
I will say once again that I wish they were able to publish the prices on their website. What a hassle! But honestly, this free shipping is so terrific, I will probably make a purchase in the next few months even though I don't really need a new Akubra!

(Note that I can't find where the actual email specifies free global shipping, but the little preview does: )

Bluegrass Green is the best hat color ever, in my opinion. I’m glad I have a few. It’s a shame to see them go.Here is a resent find NOS. I believe is is in "Fawn" another color they no longer offer for the Campdraft. I am not sure though as it is a bit darker than my other one. I took two pictures, the first better detail the second closely shows the true color.
Speaking of colors, Akubra has dropped Black for a color option for the CD (I am glad I finally ordered one last year) and now it appears they are dropping "Bluegrass Green".As I heard this I just ordered another (this is one of my favorite most worn hats, so I wanted a replacement). So what all this means is I guess going forward they will be only offering the CD in 'Sand".........
Anyway here is the 'Fawn?" CD I am wearing today!

6.75 + 8 = 14.75/2 = 7.375It's bigger likely 7 1/8. or more can't tell.
Width opening is 6.75 in & length is 8 in.
John Lofgren Monkey Boots Shinki Horsebuttt - $1,136 The classic monkey boot silhouette in an incredibly rich Shinki russet horse leather.
Grant Stone Diesel Boot Dark Olive Chromexcel - $395 Goodyear welted, Horween Chromexcel, classic good looks.
Schott 568 Vandals Jacket - $1,250 The classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket, in a very special limited-edition Schott double rider style. Not sure how that is translating into a hat with a 22 in circumference. I was looking at another with those same specified L X W also they say S- M.6.75 + 8 = 14.75/2 = 7.375
Size 7-3/8
Using your inside width & length measurements with an ellipse calculator produces a circumference of 23.23”, which puts the hat @ size 7-3/8.Not sure how that is translating into a hat with a 22 in circumference. I was looking at another with those same specified L X W also they say S- M.
Ouch... I'm a 6 7/8-7 (55 -56) so 7 3/8 is 59 cm or 23 plus inch circumference. I was told it was 22 inch circumference & that's what a quick measure was 22 in. It should be a 7 but I'm torn. V nice hat but I had to do so much padding under the band to make it work.Using your inside width & length measurements with an ellipse calculator produces a circumference of 23.23”, which puts the hat @ size 7-3/8.

I should have checked my hats before I bought another. The Akubra Norman Shark in 55 is small. Fits if I don't bring it down on the front or if I wear it like I like on the brow it's up in the back. Just seems like it's wearing me rather than I'm wearing it.Not sure how that is translating into a hat with a 22 in circumference. Would explain why the hat is so big. I put 3 thin layers of a plastic foam under the band & it works.
Hard getting hats that are not marked but at least the dimensions don't lie if it's shrunk.
Just bought Akubra 4 a Drover 1130 marked 55 in gray so this should fit or be snug. I like a 3 1/2 inch brim & it looks like it has a more oval shape than most round Akubras. It also has a higher crown & it was $40 + $9 shipping. I think the horsetail trim needs to be turned as the point most likely the front. I also like a pinch front... Looking forward to the Drover.
I got 2 compliments on the Boss today!
I thought the 3 layers of thin foam under the band would end up stretch the leather banc so took one out in the hope the hand could shrink.I should have checked my hats before I bought another. A Resistol 6 7/8 long oval fits great at 6 1/4 inch wide X 7 3/4 inch long. I guess my head is more oval but certainly not round.
6 3/4 inch wide is too wide. If it was 6 1/2 inch wide which is just right or bit snug X 8 in long then maybe it would be workable.
Darn I like the Boss & now I'm concerned as the Drover is a 55 & I have no idea of it's width & length though
the straw Abubra range in sz 55 fits fine.
