I have a Sunbody, with a big Gus shape I put in myself and a 4" brim, it's what I wear most of the summer; I love to soak it and put it back on on really hot days, and to adjust or correct the shape when it dries to that stiff clay feeling. I've had three summers wearing it almost every day and it's still looks and feels like the day I bought it, great hats for the purpose.

But it's a roughly finished and very big and rustic hat, that's not a complaint but it's what it is. There are many occasions I'd like to out something on that's a bit more stylish, or that dresses up a bit, or to wear in town and these designs are exactly what I had in mind, and look to be practical. I know the Sunbody Mexican palm straws are not recommended to soak, but the Guatemalan ones like mine just love the water.

I got a response email today from Akubra, more or less what I expected :

“Thanks so much for your message and for your kind words about our new straw collection, we’re really glad to hear the designs appeal to you!

When it comes to getting them wet, we don’t recommend exposing our new straw range to heavy rain or anywhere where they will get too wet. Light exposure may not cause immediate damage, but there is still a risk, so it’s best to keep them as dry as possible to maintain their structure and longevity.

If you have any other questions or need help choosing the right summer style, we’re always happy to help!”

Reshaped the Fed IV this morning. After wearing it all weekend I couldn’t quite shake the feeling of it being overly tall, so I went with a ‘sort of’ narrow teardrop crease, bringing the overall crown height down a bit and flattening out the top a little just by bringing the center of the bash down to touch the top of my head and then rolling it on a tabletop to make sure the height is consistent.

I have to say it looks more like a bush hat than a fedora to my eye, and has so far proven a great cold weather outdoor hat.

Got my 1st Akubra hat today (Snowy River) from the used market. It was dirty and misshapen, but it cleaned up nicely. The felt was very soft, but started to take shape after a bit of steam. It's not my usual style, but I'm excited to wear it about!

2 hats Im always watching out for are a silverbelly Campdraft Deluxe and a silver/ grey Bogart. I had a silver Bogart in my hands once ( so I know they once made them) but it was a 55 ( I wear 59 in Akubras). Have seen a few light colored Campdrafts, but so far they are either too small a size, Imperial felt, or were selling for basically retail price for a used hat.... SOMEDAY.....

A bit of a rough appearance is why theres no Sunbody on any of my walls..... thats why Ive been a big fan of the Hemp braid hats for warmer and wet weather. Ive got several Stetson Hemp Stratoliners and Open Roads, a couple of Borsalinos, and a couple of older Dobbs.....They have a neat appearance, hold up great to moisture, and come in a bunch of colors
