Picked up this Stevenson Overall Co. NG-1 Navigateur Deck Jacket from Corlection.
https://corlection.com/products/ste...oth-navigateur-hooded-deck-jacket-solid-black
The thing that drew me to this jacket was the detachable hood. I'm not much of a watch cap person so I greatly prefer the hooded version as compared to a traditional N1 deck jacket.

Some initial impressions compared to my Iron Heart N1 deck jacket
-The cut of the SOC jacket is less boxy and overall goes better on my body. The IH is boxier and not as ideal of a fit for me.
-The whipcord fabric on the SOC has a much softer hand feel. The IH is tough as nails while the SOC feels a touch more luxurious.
-The SOC is much lighter in weight. The IH is a heavy *** jacket, but it's also warmer. The wool pile in the SOC isn't nearly as thick as the IH. SOC has wool lined sleeves unlike the quilted sleeves of the IH. I think I prefer the quilted sleeves because it does make it harder to slide on over layers. The SOC is something I would layer with in sub freezing temperatures, whereas the IH can stand on its own with a t-shirt.
-The hood! I love this thing. It's wool lined and can be adjusted with a drawstring. When the hood is attached, the collar has to be popped up, so you have the wool on the back of the neck as it blocks the wind. Very nice feeling.
-The pockets of the SOC are not wool lined like the IH, so not as warm. However, I much prefer the placement of the pockets on the SOC. They are further forward toward your belly button and it makes it easier to stick your hands in. I like the piping on the sleeve and pocket hems as well. It makes getting in and out of the pockets much easier.
-The SOC has the zipper on the right side as opposed to the left side on the IH. It's also a more typical zipper size vs the oversized IH one. SOC wins for me here.
-The SOC lacks cinch tabs and a drawstring, but it fits me well enough that I wouldn't need them.

Overall I'm very happy with my purchase even when factoring the deficiencies compared to the IH jacket.

How bulky is the hood? Could you stash it in the jacket pocket when it isn’t attached?

The hood itself isn't particularly bulky, but I just tried folding it and shoving it into the pocket and it won't fit. If you roll it, you can fit maybe half of it inside, but it definitely wouldn't be secure. And there are no other internal pockets to tuck it away either. If it had a ski glove type pouch on the inside that would have been perfect but alas.

I’m curious if anyone here has tried the Fivestar N1.

I’ve been looking into the Iron Heart N1, but I am not sure what size to get and I don’t have familiarity with Japanese sizing. I prefer a comfortable fit with room to layer. I am approx 5’9” 190-200lbs athletic build. Also not sure if the thick lining of the jacket would make it necessary to size up

Thanks, yeah they are pretty scarce right now it seems. I did reach out a couple distributors including IH. They were helpful, but I got responses ranging from L (for a more snug fit) to **L. I’ve never been a **L so I was wondering if they ran small based on people’s experience

I recently got an Iron Hide N1 (off the exchange here), in a size large, and it fits great. I'm 6'2", 167 lbs, with a 39.5-40" chest, the only thing I wish it had was a longer sleeve length, but it's longer than the Buzz Rickson - if that helps at all.

Nice, are you able to layer with the L?

Is the Dehen noticeably warmer?
I think so, the IH starts to feel cold around 25°F with just a "base layer" (a smartwool or icebreaker mid-weight), and I've used the Dehen down to -4°F so far this winter, but I use a mesh baselayer under the same "base layer" mentioned with the Iron Heart. Given the extra room in the Dehen, it just feels more comfortable for me with layers and movement. I use these jackets for hiking, walking, playing ball with the dog - I have yet to use them for just standing around outside.

@CatsCan was generous enough to give me this jacket in 42 for free. It was my introduction to deck jackets, so to speak, and I was hooked.
Now that I have a Pike Brothers as an upgrade, I would like to pass the Mil Tec on to the next person who wants to try out Deck Jackets.
I will be happy to send them on in return for the shipping costs.
@CatsCan Thanks again. I hope you don't mind if I turn it into a forum jacket.
A year ago, I got this jacket from @MrProper
I was able to get another nice deck jacket. Would do the same "deal" as he did: I pass it to the next person. Just shipping costs, jacket for free.
Am based in Switzerland, but can send from Germany.

Nice move. By the way, I ended up buying the same one again, but in blue lol
Despite the low price, it's a cool jacket and perfect for getting hooked on N-1 jackets.
