I have not done any formal research on it, but I believe it is for theater or movie tickets. It is made for ease of retrieval of tickets. Much like a ***berbun is turned folds up and you can place your tickets in the folds or sometimes there is a pocket in the back of the ***berbun to put tickets and money in. Kinda like a formal "fanny pack" The cousin of the ticket pocket is in pants as the pocket watch pocket or the change/key pocket inside the right front pants pocket.

The sandstone bridge in my home town has grooves running down the barrier walls where the toll-payers scraped their coins in protest at having to pay a toll to cross the river:

"This bridge which crosses the Tweed, was designed by John Rennie of Haddington. His design is unusual in that it has a level road over semi-elliptical arches. Opened in 1803, the bridge has its Toll House on the town side. This demand for tolls led to the reading of the Riot Act in 1854, when the townspeople, tired of paying for the bridge, whose cost they reckoned had long since been covered, rioted. Later, in 1857, the tolls were removed.

Rennie later designed bridges for London, the Kelso Bridge being the design he used for Waterloo Bridge which was completed in 1817. When the Waterloo Bridge was dismantled in 1937, two of the lamp standards from that bridge were gifted to Kelso and still stand at the far end of the bridge from the town."

I tend to use the pocket for my silver dollars. If I have tickets I put them inside my jacket or if still wearing a hat, in the ribbon.

I like the extra pocket, many I know think it is too much, though I think it's just a nice touch, especially on a suit.

I think it can really slick sometimes. I'm partial to ticket pockets on SB jackets more so than on DB jackets.

I think it's not the pocket, but where you find it. Tix pocket on a more formal jacket is for stashing tickets to an evening play. A ticket pocket on a hacking jacket is for stowing your bets at the track.
Night and day. Depends on which kind of jacket the pocket appears on.

This would be either a navy blue or charcoal 2 1/2 button,notch lapel worn to all occasions requiring a suit.I honestly have no idea what a hacking jacket is .

I think that ticket pockets are usually a good idea. I have them put in almost every time I have a suit made as they lend a touch of individuality to a jacket and cause it to stand out from the crowd.

It really is the material and the cut, not the presence of absence of a ticket pocket that decides what a given suit is appropriate for. If you like them, get them, if you don't, then don't. By the way, is the new suit bespoke, or did you find this feature on an off-the-rack?
