1949 “Man from Mars Radio Hat”.
The transistor had been invented in 1947 but was still considered experimental & not widely available, so the hat’s radio relied on vacuum tube technology. The radio hat retailed for $7.95 & was available in eight colors: Lipstick Red, Canary Yellow, Blush Pink, Rose Pink, Tangerine, Flamingo, Chartreuse, & Tan. Seven more colors were added before manufacturing was discontinued in 1950.
