I had an old water bag like that once that was tied to the spare tire in the trunk of an old 1957 Chevrolet I bought. It even had Chevrolet stenciled on it in turquoise or aqua blue. Amazing that a burlap bag could soak up & sweat but not drip water.

Sure looks like an O. Winston Link photo. He was famous for his steam-era train photos, especially on the Norfolk & Western and other Eastern lines. He did a lot of brightly-lit night shots that gave stark but beautiful contrasts.

Interesting catch! That particular shot was taken in West Virginia, I believe, near the Virginia line. You never can tell where those Yankees will show up.

Hopefully not to drag this discussion too far off track, but here's another of my OWL favorites, "Maud Bows to the Virginia Creeper", taken in 1956. To me this photo does a great job of capturing a bit of rural life in the mid-1900s. How long has it been since it was "normal" for kids to drag polewood home on a sledge with a mule?

Green Cove is near Mount Rogers, the highest peak in Virginia. The Virginia Creeper line lives on as a bicycle trail.
