summer styles of the 30's, 40's and 50's?

Nearly every representation I have seen of style from the 30's-50's has been cold climate, what did the gentleman wear in the summer?

Ahh, summer wear, well summer is a great time of year for vintage cloths. A good summer look would be a light colored suit, natural tones, sand - tans - khaki. Made of light fabricks, less wool, so they are not itchy and heavy. On your head, a nice panama to keep the sun out of your eyes.:cool2:

Some of the most breathless fashions in my mind are those of the good old summer time. Spring fashions are pretty much the same. One word?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ White Gabardine double breasted belted back suit!!! Ok, that?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s more then one word. But, you get the ideal.

If I could have any suit made, it would be a white or cream gabardine double breasted belted back suit! I have the white bucks to ware with it. I have a few ?¢‚Ǩ?ìPalm Beach?¢‚Ǩ? ties as well. Oh boy, that is SUCH a cool look! Oh, and must not for get the Panama hat.

Fact: summer fabrics in the 30?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s and 40?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s weren?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t only limited to linens, gabs and seersuckers. They used wool as well! I have seen 100% white or cream colored wool suits and pants. Wool flannel was very popular and it was made so well that it breathed and was a comfortable fabric. I know; I have a pair.

If I had that outfit, I would have to say a nice striped 30?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s tie and matching striped socks would just set the outfit off right!

Am I right Gentlemen?

I too was looking for some summery tropic pix.......for an event I am attending in May called Tiki Oasis....since I am not a a Hawian shirt guy I am leaning towards some nice high waisted pants with a nice semi-sheer shirts tucked inmid 50's style.....Palm Springs summer too hot for me to do a suit.....those of you in em I offer lots of respect and a nice cold cocktail........

Boater hats were big in the '30s. They were still worn in the '50s but I've noticed from old movies and photographs that the panama hat was worn more starting in '40s and '50s. Panama hats have made a comeback in the last couple of years, I've been buying them since 2005. I wish the boater hat would make a comeback as well.

Boater hats were big in the '30s. They were still worn in the '50s but I've noticed from old movies and photographs that the panama hat was worn more starting in '40s and '50s. Panama hats have made a comeback in the last couple of years, I've been buying them since 2005. I wish the boater hat would make a comeback as well.

While visiting Brooks Brothers during the recent visit to NYC I took a moment to peruse their hat selection and there amid the usual suspects was a brand new, STRAW BOATER, english made. If I recall correctly it was in the $150 range.

That is the average price for a new boater. Hats in the Belfry has a boater that they sell for $54. Not sure how good the quality is though. It's made of "laichow straw".
