Has anybody ever done the Orient Express train trip?

I have to ask- which one?! They both seem amazing. I'm an avid fan of both the Discovery Channel and the Travel Channel and periodically they have a show on about the one in the Southwest. It looks magnificent. Someday when I get the gumption I'm going to take Aimee out there and do it. I've been held back by the idea of being able to stop when I want to and explore the countryside. Not as easy to do on a trip like that. I reckon that it'd be similar to an experience on the Queen Mary, quite nostalgic. I've never done either so I'm really anxious to just splurge and do it... and bring a suitcase full of film!!!!

Three days, two nights. Dress for dinner, kinda like a cruise ship but on land. Best cuisine I have ever had. Multiple stops for sightseeing. Nice stop at the Bridge on the River Kwai. Also visited Dutch, Aussie, Brit war cemetery. Unknown soldier graves are together under the shade of trees. Nicely done.

Romantic trip. Lots of honeymooners.

Venice Simpleton Orient Express to Istanbul

Does anybody have experience with the train to Istanbul that is now run by Venice Simpleton?

My dad "left" Yugoslavia by travelling across the Yugoslav/Italian border to Trieste on (well actually under) the "Simplon Orient Express" in early 1958...thats about the best i can offer

Though i have always wanted to do the trip (in a more normal way than my father did) and enjoy the comfort of a cabin all to myself

I have also stayed at The Observatory Hotel in Sydney which is one of two Orient-Express owned and run hotels in Australia...and the experience was (as i expected) spectacular :eusa_clap

I have a friend who took the Orient Express last year from Russia to the Far East. I will ask her.

Sorry, I was mistaken :-/ My friend did the Trans-Siberian Railway, not the Orient Express.
