Herring/Cheaney Shoes?

I have been thinking about trying a pair of Cheaney shoes made for Herring. In particular their Henley spectator (though those dress boots they have are also tempting).

Any experiences?

hahaha no experience haha , but i really like those shoes and i think anyone walking around in those is going to look dapper!

No experience with Herring or this specific model, but I have four pairs of Cheaneys. Dark brown suede brogues with crepe soles, tan bluchers with triple leather sole, white bucks and, for lack of a better term, blue bucks. All are goodyear-welted and completely lined with leather. I guess Edward Green or Trickers are higher quality, but the Cheaneys are good value for the money. I like them a lot.

Thank you for your responses. I have limited shoe experience. I've been dissapointed with Johnston & Murphy in the past, I like Bowen and Emling from France, and my experience with Allen Edmonds so far is mixed (leather quality in some of the ones I've had has been dissapointing).

So I am looking for something at least as good as AEs or Emling, but I am just not into shoes enough to buy $600+ shoes. $300-350 is about my price point for new shoes.

I think I can probably help. I own over twenty pairs of Joseph Cheaney shoes and boots, and have worn nothing else for about 17 years. I have many reasons for choosing them.
Firstly, my sister lives near to their factory, thus I always visit the shop if i am visiting her. Thus i have built up a good relationship with the shop manager Barry:

Their prices are not cheap, but they are cheaper than some of their competitors. I know that Churches (when both were owned by Prada) were annoyed that Cheaney produced shoes that met the same standards as Church, but at a lower cost.

They have a wide range and make shoes for many other companies, such as 'Jeffrey West'. Alan MacFee and Paul Smith shoes were also made by Cheaneys for some time. For me, that means the factory shop holds a wide range of styles. It also means that the factory staff have a wide experience of making shoes of varying styles.

I am also very keen on a number of the lasts they use. They seem to suit my feet. Thus I can usually look at the last number and decide whether they will right for me. I like that consistency.

As for quality, I have never been disappointed. The only times I have had problems (other than just normal wear and tear) they have repaired or replaced without charging. That included a pair that the heels fell off from due to poor construction. I had waited for about eight years before taking them back, but since the factory had made the original error, they were repaired free of charge. I find that standard of service gives me great comfort.

In particular, I think they make a very high quality country boot. The first pair I ever bought from them were made for the shooting shop 'Holland and Holland'. They are Veldtshoen construction and absolutely magnificent:

So, yes, I would certainly recommend Cheaney. Excellent quality at a very competitive price.

I love those country boots, do they still make a model like that? Perfect for my tweeds!

PS: Floey, Sproily does have a set of their Balmoral boots and he's the one that got me curious about the maker. I'm waiting on a review from him now he's had those boots for some time.

The range seems to change all the time, depending on what orders they have. The shop has a good range of boots, these being the more regular ones:

If you were trying to get hold of a pair like the 'Holland and Holland' shooting boot, you could try calling Barry at the factory shop. Email him the picture of my boots and ask him if they are doing anything similar. He should be able to help. Of course, I have no idea how much it would cost to have boots sent from the UK to USA, but I am sure he can let you know the weight.

Herring have a great rep for shoes. They get them MTM from the top outfits at their own price. They get their own design made as well.

i like the look of the Fencoat in brown calf and pale grey suede.

The Herring boots I have are wonderful quality. I haven't used them much yet because we had a harsh winter here in Finland, but now that the weather is warming up I will be using them a lot with suits.

Herring by Cheaney is a great value for money. I have been spying those spectators for a while now, too.

Two Types: that saddle shoe with the fabric is amazing... I want it!!!
