Thanks, man. For sizing, I sent them both measurements (length, ball, instep) and the sizing I take in different boots. I'm relying on their expertise and pray they both fit when they arrive.

Okay I'll do the same! It's like the initial benzein process. Thank you

One clarification. Rizky asked for measurements but Peng didnt. I sent them to Peng anyway to ease my own mind. I've got a wide foot with prior foot injuries and I've yet to find that perfect last. I've come close, but I'm still waiting for that holy grail. I'm in the queue for a special maker for a full bespoke pair of boots, but that won't come until 2023.

Noted, I'll just slam them messages and pray it works out lol

Okaaay a full bespoke shoe maker! Is this role club or one of those Japanese specialist?

Neither. Lee Miller of Texas Traditions in Austin. He's got a 4 year waiting list. He's considered one of the finest, if not the finest, bootmaker in the US. His work is incredible.

Have not heard of this guy before but a 4 year wait time is crazy haha I'll look him up. His Instagram is private so I can't see his work but is it a western boot you are after?

Ya they're cowboy boots. I picked my first pair 7 or so years ago and have been hooked since. More comfortable than they look and more versatile than I expected. Plus you've got the historical significance and I live in the South where they're ubiquitous.

That's true, it's a very cool looking style of boots and should fit right where you live. Always liked them too, if I like the engineers a lot I'll probably look into one of these.

I am getting quite heated about boots since I ordered the Benzein chelsea :p:D

So onderhoud is knowm for engineers and the monkey boots? How does he compare to Benzein?

@Ayeteael , who else would you recommend for a top end pair of westerns? I would like a nice hand tooled pair

Edit: if I still wanted to put my name down with Lee Miller of Texas Traditions, what is the best point of contact?

With cowboy boots, I've only had experience with Lucchese. I don't own any custom boots yet, but Lucchese is generally regarded as a good maker. Their "1883" line is on the lower price point, while their "Classics" line are more expensive and made in El Paso. Boots made in America command a premium, but I still enjoy my boots made in Mexico, and they're excellent value.(https://www.gearpatrol.com/style/a640015/mexicos-shoemaking-history/)

There are many excellent bootmakers and I'm no expert, but I've also read great things about Rios of Mercedes and I purchased a pair of Heritage Boots while in Austin for my wife. I've also been tempted to pick up a pair of Tecovas, since they incorporated the direct-to-consumer model with boots.

If you want to go custom, check this out from Texas Monthly:

Re Texas Traditions specifically, I initially reached out via Instagram and was directed to call or email them. Contact info:

I love my honcho boots they are great value. Their website and IG is horrible and does not show what they can do.

rios of Mercedes is another quality brand and olathe makes good boots i think owned by the same company

i follow on IG heritage boots, parker boots, rocketbuster, too many to count really there are a lot of small boot makers around the US

i tried a pair of lucchese ropers non classic line and returned them. They had i think a cardboard lining. And price wise i would rather get another honcho pair

liberty boot, stallion boots, black jack boots...

Benzein makes great stuff (to me personally as I have 3 boots from them with another 1 on order) and they use really sought after leather that's why I always go back to them.

Hmm I think part of the allure of getting a pair from onderhoud is because of he was once a one man company (he now has a few people that work for him) and there's that little bit of exclusivity/long queue because of word of mouth from instagram boot influencers. I think the engineers and the monkey boots he does are exceptional, he also does a great looking packed boot and boondockers though.

Look up flame panda, he makes great stuff too. I think his 102 last looks similar to your blue canvas clinch boots. I ordered a black horsebutt for that specific boot.

Hmmm all these talks about western boots. . .

Love those brown honchos. I live in CA, in the west coast so I can justify having a western boot, right? Right? Lol

How much do the Onderhoud engineer boots go for, delivered? They certainly have a more refined profile than Wesos.

Depends on the leather you use, I was quoted $600 for black horse **** plus shipping cost so that probably will be additional $50-70. I would have gotten wescos but I really like horse **** leather so I'm getting one from onderhoud.

Its really difficult to order from him because of increased demand, he would normally do a raffle to determine who he will make boots for. I haven't won any of those raffles yet, he just random messaged me to ask if I was still interested in getting a boot from him (took 7 months for him to reply from my initial inquiry lol)

Admittedly, I know squat about western boots, but found this thread to be very helpful and informative when I decided to pick some up:

Pay attention to what member bamaboots has to say. He knows his stuff. If you're into vintage look for Paul Bond boots. For a bit more flair (which may be up your alley), Stewart-Romero. If Lucchese, either Lucchese Classics for more recent stuff (avoid the 1883 and 2000 lines) or vintage boots stamped San Antonio.

I have a pair of L-R (vintage) Tony Lamas, Black Jack, and Chris Romero:

I understand what you mean about their website, what price range are they in?

The 102 last looks very simillar indeed, curious to hear your impressions when you get them. What is their lead time like?

Love those brown honchos. I live in CA, in the west coast so I can justify having a western boot, right? Right? Lol

The most important thing is whether you feel comfortable in a pair, I would say try one! :D

Texas Traditions stopped taking new customer orders a few years ago when their lead time reached four years. Haven’t checked in some time so I don’t know if this has changed.

The upper will be made from black horse **** from Maryam which I am a fan of so I know how that will behave. I do hope the 103 last and size agrees with me. The lead time was projected at 6 months so maybe I'll have the boots by July (hopefully).

I'll probably get one (western boot) later on just for fun lol that should be right at home to wear during the county fair season

This is correct, but in 2019 they mentioned on their instagram taking customers again, so I reached out. I don't know whether they're still taking new customers, but its worth asking if you're interested.

@red devil my horween horsehide boots were 385 bucks from Errol Shipler. Honcho is made in el paso different from Hondo made in Mexico. Different companies

I pic toe style, heel, scallop, stitch pattern, narrowed shaft, shaft height, pull tab style, sole, etc. can be all specified. Exotics a little more money

Errol Shipler site:
https://www.shiplerboots.com

this site some better pics. Carter’s boots are made by Honcho

https://cartersboots.com/collections/mens-western-boots

same as Drews western boots made by honcho
