What do you all think of this H&L Block? I don't know the vintage stuff like some of you, but it looks to be in decent shape. 40/42

$485 OBO

I don't know anything about them, but as I saw it, my first thought "that's fake shearling". Then the leather looked real.

I opened the actual ad and it seems the shearling around the collar is just quite dirty. In that first picture I thought it was just shadows, but it is actually just dirty/stained:

The product description states it is frayed around the collar. I personally wouldn't pay that price, but I've zero knowledge about the brand beyond knowing there's a thread about here in TFL (which I haven't read).

Thanks for your input!

I figure that shearling might look pretty good for being 80 or 90 years old, but I'm learning new stuff every day.

I wouldn’t pay more than $250 for that, if it’s my style. Block is a good brand, but car coat isn’t in high demand.
Thanks @jchance

I live in Atlanta, so won't be a buyer. It seems to me someone would need to get the shearling redone, but the HH looks fantastic IMO. Heck, someone could consider getting the shearling removed and a lighter fabric put in for the liner.

Far from an expert myself, just going off the eye test.

This said, I didn't know it was so old and while I still wouldn't buy it, I would happily live until I'm 80-90 like this :p

Would be curious if anyone is able to ID this one.

You usually see these with either JC Penney labels or Daniel Boone labels. Sometimes with an AMC label. But more often than not, you see them like this one, with only a leather label. It’s one of the most common jacket designs of the 50’s. Penneys were sold all over the country. There must have been multiple manufacturers of these jackets. I’ve seen this design with an American Sportswear label as well as a Ralph Edwards label and both were makers.

I just posted my Penneys version of this jacket a week ago or so in the WJAYT thread. I love these. They’re so comfortable, so cool. This one is in great condition, just a bit pricy.

This is really attractive for the price but there is at least one seam issue:

Leather on at least one shoulder is questionable too. Yup, it’s a beater. Would be better if it was $100 or less but for $150 it’ll serve someone well. I’m sure it still has some life in it. I own two of these older Wolfs and the horsehide is incredible. These fit longer than the newer ones which I think most people would like.
