Not that this is a great example because it's clearly overpriced for a toasted jacket....but anyone have any read on why Vanson's seem to be sold second hand so close to their retail price compared to other brands? It's not like they're hard to find/short on supply like a Real McCoy's J-24. Or require a custom order and lead time like a Thedi.

Obviously they seem like an incredible brand so I get it if the answer is just simply it's a great quality jacket that holds its value, but so is Schott and yet that's another ubiquitous/classic American brand but one that loses its value tremendously secondhand vs. retail.

I've never owned one so I've had my eye on eBay alerts and elsewhere, and I'm always surprised to see secondhand stuff going for about $500 when it's maybe $700 new.

Vanson or any US-made brands (Langlitz, Cal, etc.) go for higher in the JP secondary market. It’s that foreign premium pricing.

Many times when you see a strong price for a Vanson, it's because of the particular "competition weight" leather of the late 90s, early 2000s from a source that is no longer available, and the jackets were....fantastic. It's not for every one. Also, for a long time, brand new Vansons were $599 when Schott was already $1000...

This for sure.

You can still buy new Vanson's for $550 or $600.

Vanson has also not stepped as far out into the fashion area as Schott and seems to be ever more closely trying to be a motorcycle jacket supplier. Even though they have plenty of "off the bike" models.

Vanson Horse Hide - Size 36 $500 BIN or offer - note condition, not sure if it just needs conditioning or maybe some repairs

I knew when I posed this it was way too much money, and would need significant repair (which Vanson could do, but the sleeves would obviously be a different material).

It is however too bad since this jacket through the body still looks great. But it's a testament to "treat & condition your jackets" and do not leave them drying out.

Right, I have noticed this (many listings that pop up will be even higher than retail but are inevitably a Japanese seller in Japan so it makes sense) but even for domestic offerings I regularly see them being far closer to retail than other brands.

Interesting, thank you! I've never handled one either way but know the CW leather is legendary (and have seen some mutterings that it is not what it used to be on posts here), will have to keep an eye on the listings to see if they mention this aspect.

Nice clean Langlitz Cascade with crossack (band) style collar. Looks like it's not seen much use, $700 BIN or offer 24" pit to pit made in 1992
