What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Was going to comment to your statement about being cold natured so you can wear jackets when you want..... ( such a good look with brimmed hats) a few yrs back I found a really inexpensive Cooper flight jacket in a Seattle area Goodwill store. When I moved back to Texas it was just too bulky and warm to wear outside of Jan/ Feb. I stripped the liner and insulation out, and sewed up a nice muslin shirt/ liner to take its place. I could wear that jacket up to 75 degrees no sweat ( little humor there) . if it was cold I just work a sweater under it. Made for a nice lightweight jacket. Unfortunately with the insulation layer gone it was really baggy.... gave the jacket to a bigger fellow I know and its living happily with him now. Have kinda been looking for another flight jacket thats almost snug and doing the same thing to. Ive got a nice soft lambskin and a pigskin that I like, but I miss my rugged old non insulated flight jacket

Best wishes on the job..... After my stroke a few yrs back, I came to the conclusion that for me work is over-rated..... I chose the early retirement route when that time came. Had to replace work with the morning gym/ coffee/ pipe/ errands routine. No sleeping late and lounging around for me. Just like a faithful dogs, we humans function better if we have a meaningful job to keep us engaged.

I've always been extremely self-motivated and project oriented. I don't need someone else to fill my time up or give me purpose. Unfortunately, most things I'm interested in don't make much money - history, philosophy, theology, art. If you're not an academic or a best-selling artist, it's tough to make a living.

The bitter irony about long-COVID is I can't read or write anymore. So I've had all this time on my hands, but every time I try to read or write I just get horrible vertigo and nausea. In fact, just typing up this short post is making me feel bad...

I can wear my goatskin A-2 comfortably until about 80 degrees (depending on humidity). But I can wear this thin cowhide trucker from the Gap well into the 90s. But I enjoy wearing jackets and hats and regularly wear both indoors even in the summer.

The Edgewood for me. Magnificent! I’ve always liked the Penumbra a lot, though it looks like the top front of the crown has seen better days. The Barbisio rounds out the top three……hang on. Maybe the Dalton.
No felts for me of late as we’re around 35-36°C every day. Rain overnight means today will be a cool 32…and humid. Really humid.

Thanks, Gary. Well spotted: the Penumbra was blown off a table one day and the top of the crown got damaged. Broke my heart, but what can you do?

I can wear my goatskin A-2 comfortably until about 80 degrees (depending on humidity). But I can wear this thin cowhide trucker from the Gap well into the 90s. But I enjoy wearing jackets and hats and regularly wear both indoors even in the summer.

If its too warm and I feel like it, I just do an early coffee run in leather before moving into short sleeves lol

The shirt, as most of you know, is a creation of my talented wife, Tina. The lady hasn't been doing much sewing of late, her recovery from surgery has been her main priority, but she's itching to resume her sewing, and I have seen the fabric that's in the pipeline for a very enviable shirt.

This is the actual colour of today's hat, G&G call it: "Shirwell."

Looking good, Robert. Sunshine but not too warm is ideal weather for the lighter coloured hats if you ask me.

A second Buffalonian from my collection of boaters... both sport a prominent hair tonic stain to the liner. Perhaps Wildroot? (which was manufactured in Buffalo). This one is a traditional straw weave but unusually robust.

You are not wrong Stefan, my mind is elsewhere sometimes, worrying over Tina. She rebukes me and tells me to stop clucking like an old mother hen. Early this morning Tina noticed that we were low on a few provisions, I immediately went into mother hen mode and went off to the local supermarket.

Walking from the car to the store and still pondering Tina, a lady approached me, complimenting my appearance and then praised the hat. My smile stayed fixed throughout and was still evident as I got into the car to head back home. A compliment from a stranger, it really made my day.
