Pretty cool Ralphs Pugh with a JC Penney label. Definitely not a steal, but a cool find

Dehen makes these replicas for the museum shop and surprising that the quality wasn't perfect. I'm pretty sure the higher priced items from the museum shop like race sweater replics get pulled from display to ship- maybe the sweater you received had been handled by the masses touring the museum.
Maybe you are right. I also saw some images from HD reviews at the webpage. There was one customer who posted an image of the same sweater with a bigger, darker dirt stain? What did not make sense is the customer service being so rude. I was sent to three different departments because they just did not know how to handle this return. I should have just used their webpage and process it? At any rate. I love HD motorcycles and jackets. I love the American way of building. However, I never used HD for servicing my bikes. I do appreciate my friend at the Baldwin Park HD dealer who is a master and the best motorcycle detailer I know (have many friends who work in that industry). His name is Arturo and there is a video of him here.
I used to work at a site in Balwin Park, so I visited that location on a weekly basis. I followed that dealer since the late 70s when they were in San Gabriel and were one of the major motorcycle dealers in the area. Sadly, local HD dealers no longer have a professional detailer at their sites. A dealer in Orange County, California is the other one I have known that used to have a top of the line detailer.

1940s CSC goat 40

Those CSC in goat are so nice. I have several of them in half belt and a mid 50s "Happy Days" type. In the past, I owned several early40s that i gave away to close friends. However, of all the Californians I have owned, I still in the search for the Escape from New York one. I know is not goat but is on that famous cape skin hide. So if anyone has that one for sale, let me know.

Pherrow’s 1930s aviator 38(JP), would have grabbed this if it were in my size

WTF is that sizing? 18" pits and 20.5" back length on a size 38?
Either the seller has absolutely no idea how to measure or it's a child sized jacket, so more like a 30 than a 38.
I'm leaning more on the 1st guess because the jacket does not look that small at all.
Beautiful jacket, someone should get the actual measurements for it!

It is a JP size 38. Which in my experience such sizes tend to run smaller than the American size 38.

In my opinion that still makes no sense. I've look through hundreds of JP jackets (made in JP for JP, doesn't get more JP) in sizes 34-38 and have never seen anything as absurdly small as this (at least in terms of back length).
And yes I've seen many Pherrow's jackets as well, they had normal sizing. Even from the pictures you can clearly see that the back is no 20.5".
Here's an example:
Pherrow's d-pocket cross zip in size 36:
Shoulder width 39/15.75"
Body width 48/18.75"
Length 54/21.25"
Sleeve length 62/24.5"
Here's a 38:

My best guess is that the Ebay listing folks measured the back down to the half belt? And chest seam-to-seam as opposed to full pit-to-pit.

I’m usually a slim 36 and use jp sized jackets ranging from 34 to 38.

One of my size jp 38 has a boc length around 20.5” and p2p around 18.5” so not far off from those stated in that listing.

Also, regarding the length, I believe the the 27.5” might be a typo, because if you look at the jacket proportions you can clearly see that the boc length is a bit shorter than the sleeve length and 24” for sleeve length sounds about right, so maybe not 20.5” but definitely not 27.5”..

Here’s the official measurement of the same Pherrow’s jacket without the padding.

Size 38: length 58cm, body width 49cm, shoulder width 42cm, sleeve 61cm

49cm is about 19.5in p2p, which is a world of difference to 18in p2p.

JP size 36/38 is about my size so I’m familiar with that range.
