Kansas City was home to an early wooden plank racetrack.
Later the track was demolished & the grounds developed into a "carnival park", which stands in ruins today, last I knew.

When I was very young there was a slaughterhouse approximately half a mile west of our house, and a dairy farm with live cows a few miles north. There was a whole lot less b.s. between us and those places 50-55 years ago, and if the wind was blowing the right way we'd get a whiff. That's nothing like actually growing up on a cattle ranch, but it helps to explain when I write that I could smell ^ those two photos.
