Robbie, I got a used Aero B3 off the classifieds over the summer. The day it arrived, it was literally 105 degrees (40 C I think) in Los Angeles. My wife thought I completely lost my mind as I wore it around the house in flip flops and boxer shorts.I'm considering this Eastman Leather Mechanic Type D-1 but due to my lack of experience with both Eastman and shearling jackets, I'm not sure if 375€ is a reasonable price for an Eastman D-1 in this "good" condition. The owner told me that no cleaning is necessary (no odors) and also no repairs are necessary, just the shearling is a bit worn on sleeves and hem. I wonder if cleaning in a bathtub with warm water and detergents is possible or if extra chemical dry cleaning is necessary. I was also in discussing with John Lever about his RMC B-3 but I'm not sure about sizing (42) and also if the B-3 is too thick/warm for our climate. D-1 or B-6 might be a better choice. I was even thinking about Thedi's thinner modified B-3 jacket. What do you guys think? Thanks!

First thing I did was take it to a tailor because it was a size big. I wasn't sure how much to compensate for the shearling thickness and all that so I ended up like 3 inches too big on the chest and 1.5 on the shoulders. The shoulders I couldn't fix without a major rework, but my tailor did a great job on the ptp, waist and bottom hem. Almost fits like a D1 now.
I bought it because it's just one of those things I always wanted. Living in LA, I knew I wouldn't get a lot of use out of it. But here's what I found. I can wear it in like 30-45 minute bursts, walking the dog, hanging out in the yard, sitting by a fire pit, quick market stop, etc. So in some ways, I think I can probably get like 50 wears out of it in specialized situations. There's no way though I could wear it all day long, getting in and out of cars, being indoor/outdoor, etc. Any sort of exertion is going to make you break a sweat. I think this thing can go sub zero and not even flinch. So it's going to get hot quick. And it's just bulky.
So I guess it depends on what you need the jacket for. If it's like your all day jacket, I wouldn't go B3 unless you live in Greenland.
