[Two Types]

Here's my contribution. It's a dinner suit that I would guess dates back to late forties or early fifties. It was made by an Indian tailor in Nairobi, Kenya. Most probably for a British man working in the colonies. Being made to be worn in Africa, it's a lighter weight wool than normal for dinner suits of the period. The trousers have side adjusters rather than brace buttons - I assume that's because braces aren't so comfortable in warmer climates.

I'm wearing it with a utility era evening scarf, complete with cc41 label. I'm rather surprised that they made evening scarves as part of utility wear. They are hardly essential items when you have to ration clothing!

Of course they are essential to Britons! Imagine going through a war without evening scarves! Morale would break down. And what would they have strangled Germany's WWII-era leader with?

Maybe an idea for a research project? "The scarves that won the war."

Pretty certain it is "raw silk" (actually the rough leftovers from silk-production).
I have a pair of Indian trousers that have a rough slubby fabric that looks very similar.

I can remember encountering this style of fabric in India when I worked in the airlines 1978-94. I remember buying slubby raw silks and having them made up in BKK.

It does read '47' but not in the date box. I didn't like to take that as the definite date.

Yes, the fir is very good. It hasn't needed any alterations. Now I just need to hope the same shop gets the rest of the original owner's clothes!

The "HI" on the chest pocket certainly are the owners initials.

"Nawata" is a Japanese name.

Close to 36 inches waist. I usually wear 34 inches, but with a belt (or after a good meal) they fit me.
