But what about wide brim black?

I was resisting brown myself until Gary White told me he still had 2 vintage brown bodies with cavanagh edges, I had him make both of them since they were different dimensions and different shades. Now those 2 are my most favorite hats. He has one body left in steel gray in my size, but I'm hesitant to pull the trigger since it only has a 2" brim. I'm not ruling it out forever yet, impulse can always get the better of me.

I really don't want to look like I'm wearing a "Costume" or Uniform(unless that is the goal for a particular event). It does depend upon the whole ensemble and the state of my facial hair at the time too.
As mentioned, brown of a certain style has the IJ association. Black wide brim, depending upon the particulars, may look like a Western Villain or Orthodox Jew, appropriate for some at certain events or locations but not a look I'm generally after.

I worry more about the Michael Jackson comparisons, myself. Can't wear a black jacket with a black fedora.
