I've bought the Danner military boots for years now (and used them both operationally and also just for a jaunt in the hills). Been like wearing slippers they are so comfy and the ankle support is great, as it the weatherproofness.

Am currently wearing these little numbers (had them for about two years now) and love them. Sturdy little numbers, though will need resoling soon as I wear the grips down being hard on them. Not the best at keeping the water out to be honest, but fine for fair terrain and about town. (RedWings Gentlemen Travellers).

I think they look great! I only have one pair of Alden cordovan shell blucher but these are next!

My personal favorite is cowboy boots! You've gotta love 'em! Great for struttin' round town and, if you put a zip sole atop the leather sole, great for riding your bike! The zip sole is great, as it won't devalue the boot!

My father was an intellectual and a professor when I was growing up...a beatnik of sorts. We lived between John Irving and James Van Allen. Everyone at the University of Iowa in the 1970s wanted to look counterculture as well as erudite, and leather jackets coupled with cowboy boots was the way to do it. Riding a Triumph or Norton helped as well! Think of all of our heroes who did it in cowboy boots--John Lennon, Jack Kerouac, Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs, Bob Dylan, Etc. The list is never ending!

When I'm not riding competitively, I'm always in my cowboy boots!!!

By the way, does anyone here own a pair of Alden Indy Boots?

I own a pair of Indy 403 boots with the Chromexcel leather and neoprene sole. Have been very happy with them, though the laces would be better if they were waxed. I find the Tru-balance last to be roomy, so I sized down from a 9.5D to a 9D. Same as with the Barrie-last shoes. I have quite the Alden collection now; six at last count.

My favourite walking boot has to be anything by RM Williams...especially the Yard Boot with leather heel block or the Bushman with flat heel. Supremely comfortable, durable and beautiful boots. And the forthcoming 1936 Pattern boot by RMW's.. but I didn't say that.

As an aside, boots by Red Wing or anything made in the UK, Drucker or Maxwell Boots etc...even if they're available online cost a pretty packet to get to Australia. Thank god we have RMW's and Ian Harold Bootmakers here..otherwise you'd be starved for choice.

Now that it's deep in the heart of winter I thought I'd post another American made old fashioned boot. It's not the toughest, nor made with the highest quality skills or materials, but it's light, good in the rain, and a little bit distinctive. It's not as nice as they used to be but.... Use with a nice think rag wool sock and you're good to go.

My favorite is the standard.

Now that I live a good deal of the time in Maine I've also purchased the more ridiculous but warmer shearling lined.

Aesthetically I also like the new Waxed Cotton LL Bean Signature version:

I really like crocs shoes, their actually really comfortable but I do not find them fashionable. I was wondering if anyone has ever purchased clarks shoes, if so how did you like them? Do they support your feet and ankles?

I haven't tried on the clogs because I'm horrified by their appearance, but I own a pair of the canvas lace-up shoes they made and love them for casual, around-the-house and summertime shoes. Sadly, I think they were discontinued shortly after I bought my pair.

Those are fantastic! Where does one procure a pair?
Does anyone here watch "Boardwalk Empire"? Amazing costumes in that show. I get jealous when I watch it thinking how nice it used to be. Sure, you can dress like that today with some effort, but I fear generally speaking, we've lost our taste in clothing we once had.

If you're buying them without trying them on please note that they're a wide fitting, I believe they're sized-up to accommodate thick woolen socks.

I'm a US 13/14. I wonder if they'd fit me? Too much $$$ to experiment! They only go to 13.
