Ah roulette. I used to play that when I first came to the casino's when I turned 21. I haven't been so lucky as of late. I need to devise a new strategy there.

So the Monte Carlo is still closed????? That's costing some big bucks on daily gaming revenue.

I like roulette very much, but it favors the house more than any of the other games. ****s has friendlier odds for the player, especially when smartly and strategically played. There is a lot of helpful "how to" on ****s out there. Not that I've mastered any of it...

Ah... Roulette...

But here's the rub... and a LITTLE insight into my strategy...

I have found that the little boards that show the most recent hits (about the last 24) give me enough data (for my math-inclined brain), combined with a slow-but-steady betting strategy (five bets of two chips each placed on the intersection of four numbers), yield a net result of 8 chips per winning spin. (One of my bets pays off 8-to-1, so I get 16 chips, lose 8, and keep the 2 chips from the winning bet.)

In four different casinos (three on the strip and one in Lake Las Vegas) I won an average of $85 for 90-120 minutes of play. (At the rate I was winning, I should have probably increased my bets but I AM conservative!)

My knowledge concerning probability is rusty, but I do know that previous spins have no impact on subsequent spins. There can be confusion between aggregate probabilities and probabilities of individual component events of the aggregate. In other words, to pull a simple example, the odds against 25 coin flips in a row landing heads are astronomically high, as an aggregate event. But suppose that you get 24 heads in a row, what are the odds on the 25th flip? A lot of people assume that the odds must be in favor of a tails flip, because of those previous 24 heads flips. But that's not true. The odds on the 25th flip are the same as they are on any individual flip: 50/50 heads/tails.

Something tells me your strategy is flawed, therefore. The odds in roulette, because of the "0" and "00," are frankly terrible. I like the wheel, though.

I've wondered in past trips to Las Vegas if the downtown casinos are a fun place to stay. Has anyone stayed at Fitzgerald's or The Golden Nugget, Four Queens, etc? These would definetly be Las Vegas vintage vacation spots.

I've stayed at The Fitz, the rooms aren't the best, most of the rooms don't have queen beds, only double, and while that is seemingly 'old school' I need 'new school' comfort.

Also, the smell of smoke was overwhelming! But they do have pretty loose slots downtown, and you can save on food/drink etc.

Go to Laughlin if you want to see more old school "vegas" as they haven't started demolishing anything there yet.

I used a similar strategy myself on roulette. I'd first stand back and watch the table for 10-15 minutes to get a feel; black, red, black, black etc. then the numbers and such. Then I'd go into the game once I was "comfortable" with the movement of the game.[huh]

Here's the concept...

As you can see from this layout, there are THREE columns of numbers on the American roulette layout, 12 numbers to a column. As Patrick stated, the odds of any ONE number coming up on any ONE spin is 1 in 38. But, for a well-balanced wheel over a long period of time, each number ought to come up -- on average -- about once every 38 spins of the wheel.

So, my *system* is to scan the board and look at AREAS on the layout where numbers haven't recently come up and bet there. Here's an example, if I notice that 1, 2, 4, and 5 haven't come up in the last 20-30 spins, I would place a bet on the *+* where these four numbers intersect. I was playing at $10 minimum tables so would place two chip bets on five different *four-corners* If I noticed that 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 were ALL not recent winners I would place a bet on the 1-5 and 2-6 corners, which would leave the *2* and *5* numbers *double covered*.

This *system* requires a careful eye/good memory so that you have some sense about what areas might come *due* on any spin. It also ignores the 0 and 00 numbers, but I tried to account for that by betting one chip on the line between the two numbers in situations where NEITHER 0 or 00 had hit in a while.

As mentioned before, I was winning consistently this way, with a *net* of 8 chips every time I won. For four or five hours of play I won over $300 and would say that I hit about 2 out of every 3 spins. This makes some sense, since with 5 different corners (no double overlaps) you can cover 2/3 of the standard layout, not counting 0 or 00, for the minimum $10 bet.

Here's how this would net out for three spins: (1) $8 won; (2) $8 won; (3) $10 lost. So for three spins I would be up a net $6. In other words, at about 30 spins per hour at the wheel, I was making about $60 per hour. If I was feeling a little bolder, I would have been betting $100 per spin, which would have netted me $600 per hour! (If only I thought I had a REAL system!)

I was playing Rapid Roulette today at Imperial Palace and tried this scenario out. It's interesting and a won a couple bucks testing the waters.

I wanted to start off small. Since the minimum bet at Imperial Palace wa $5 I figured what the hell, so I got $20 out and started looking at the numbers and colors that were previously picked, once I got the $20 up to $80 I started making $25 bets, then I had to catch my plane, so I collected my chips, left a tip and left.

That's a loaded question. It depends on what one is looking for. I have been to most of the major casinos in Las Vegas, most of the card rooms in Los Angeles, the major casinos in Louisiana, and to several of the ones in Europe. I have not done Macao yet, but it is on my list.

For overall value and enjoyment in Las Vegas, the wife and I like SunCoast. This is way off-Strip in Summerlin. Second would be Mandalay Bay. We always rent a car, so catching shows at other casinos is never a problem. We generally will make two trips a year, with one trip to SunCoast and the other trip to any other property. This gives us a new property at least once a year to sample.

Slots - we limit ourselves to video poker slots. "Loose" is really not a relevant term in my opinion when it comes to slots. For video poker slots we always look for a 9/6 machine and we play five coins. The 9/6 machines have the better payouts if you play five coins. If we can not find a 9/6 machine on the floor, we will ask the host where they stash them.

Poker - As I have mentioned before, Los Angeles is actually the poker capital of the world. We like Commerce Casino the best. The L.A. card rooms, however, are a bit seedy. But if you are there to play cards, who cares?

Europe - We do these casinos more for the evening ambiance than for gambling. My favorite is the Winkler in Salzburg, Austria. Great views looking down on the city.

Card Rooms and Ponies....

There really are a lot of card rooms here in California. There is really nice one in Colma. (yeah a casino amongst the deadlol ) but a lot are kind of seedy. I never go into them just because I know I may go overboard.

Same with the racetrack. Which also brings up the question; who bets on the horses?[huh]

The Paris

They are very nice there. I have always had a good time there.

We stayed at the Mandalay Bay last time we were in Vegas, it was nice, but even the bartenders there complained about management. That is always a bad sign. They were very nice and friendly, but didn't seem very happy with their jobs.

Really enjoyed our two stops there. Quality place with nice folks. (The fact that I won both times at the wheel DOES color my opinion.)
