It's amazing jacket with amazing history.
It's great when you know the history of things that you own now. Not always it is possible to find out...
I'm trying to determine by the patch sewn tracks with the help of my US colleagues and friends try to identify the USN or USMC sqn my G-1 was served. So that later, with the help of collectors, try to find the original patches of that era and put them back in their place)))

luckily, the purchase included a number of photos of the original owner, NAF Dunkeswell, his crew, and later photos when he was flying transports during the Korean War. also included a pair of gloves he presumably used. i agree, discovering provenance is not usually easy.

Schott made those G-1s in a lot of colors. Green, yellow, red, blue, brown. Maybe more. Kinda fun. Nicely made but I'd have to be 30 years younger and drunkerer

Guessing it is OK to post an M422A as my favorite G-1. i was lucky enough to purchase this one some years ago and consider it, for me, a grail-level jacket. First, it is in VGC in a large size for a vintage WWII jacket (size 48). actually, it is a bit too large for me. Secondly, it is worn and broken in to where it is very soft and the collar is still quite serviceable. i had the knits replaced locally. Thirdly, i purchased the jacket from the estate, in Indiana, of the vet who wore the jacket. He flew out of Dunkeswell, UK and was awarded the DFC for sinking a German sub in the Bay of Biscay (VPB-105) flying the USN version of the B-24. the pics:

The yellow schott looks like something your mom would make you wear to make sure you never get lost at the mall.

I prefer my flight jackets to look as close to the M-422A as possible. I miss mine

Hi All,

I say, to each his own with regards to an individual's favorite USN jacket. In my case that preference is with those original jackets from within my collection.

As seen below are a selection from that collection. In this case, three different original model USN type jackets made by Monarch.


From left to right, the two in the back row are both World War-2 era AN-J-3A jackets. One is a size 44 and the other a size 46. I have more detailed pix of that size 46 here http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/latest-war-era-jacket-restoration-favorite-make-jacket.90727/ .

Those two large size AN-J-3A Monarch's are quite remarkable. I say this becuase over the past ten years since I began collecting, those two Monarch jackets are the only true Large size USN War time original Monarch jacket's I've seen to date & would welcome seeing any others.

That size 42 jacket seen in the front row one of my few Korean War era size G-1s. Currently, that size 42 is my go to USN jacket wearer.

Notably, Monarch built civilian model copies of all their Government issue jackets. Unlike their A-2 counterpart, there were very minor differences between their Government contract USN models as compared to those Army Air Corps counterpart. That first jacket as seen on the left in that back row is one of their War time civilian versions. While the two others are both Government issue.

I prefer to buy a D-series G-1 made by Martin Lane instead. D-series G-1 is still quite common on eBay and costs much less than this repro by Eastman.

I think JFK's G-1 was a 1962 Ralph Edwards that sold for some serious $$$ at auction!

A good looking jacket and you certainly can't beat the price. I like their leather choice...nice character.

I like the ELC jacket as well. Originals are awesome, but being at the top end of the scale (46-48) the pickings are pretty slim.

My Foster ELC is still one of my best fitting jackets. I still wonder about the crunchy leather that ELC uses (used?) on that jacket. The Lane they've copied here looks much softer and more what I am used to in a G-1.
