Hadn't had a good meal in a few days. Had Blackened Catfish with dirty rice & jalapeño hushpuppies, & a bowl of gumbo. Washed down with several Bourbon Street Porters.

Wow, this thread has kicked it up several notches recently. With SGF out with a friend last night, I had toast - yes, toast - so this page provided emotional food sustenance. Those pepper-coated steaks look insane.

Haven't tasted gumbo since 7 on Heaven here in Chicago closed. Normally grab Cajun cat pan fried and spiced at Red Lobster.
Good gumbo is a rarity in these parts.

One slice of greybread with nut-nougatcream, one slice with storebrand french air-dried pork-salami, one rollmops and one Gala Royal apple. Good mixture.

Mesquite grilled salmon, grilled lemon pepper U-21 shrimp, buttered dinner roll, green salad.

Hubby was not a huge fan of "just fish & veggies". Lily gobbled it down.

Google quickly taught me that U-21 refers to the per-pound shrimp count and not which German submarine the shrimp served on in WWII.

And, salmon and salad is "just fish and veggies" zzzzzz, but add in shrimp and now you're talking about a tasty meal.

Everything on here looks and sounds great. That's coming from a guy who's back on the Nutrisystem. Not exactly fun, but I'm sure I'll look like Marie Osmond in about four weeks!

Brunswick Stew...the quintessential, low-country peasant food. A vegetable based recipe, in North Carolina, it’s traditionally augmented with venison, pork, squirrel, chicken, rabbit or whatever meat is handy. But this rainy day, our furry forest animals can snuggle safely in their borrows. This stew was made from plain old Harris Teeder purchased pork and chicken. Still, heardy and warm on a cool, damp day.
