What is Japanese STF (super tight fit)?

Hi Everyone, I came across a great thread where the OP found an Aero 1930s Half Belt in STF (super tight fit)--bought new in Japan. I gather that STF means that the armholes are smaller and the sleeves are thinner. This kind of sizing would work well for me, I think!

Is STF sizing very different from regular sizing (in an Aero jacket, for example)?

If so, how do you get an Aero STF jacket?

Thanks so much for any insights!

STF ( super tight fit ) is a pattern that was developed for our Japanese market before we had the likes of Premier patterns and 1930's cuts . We do an STF Half Belt and an STF Bootlegger , these were developed because both our 1950's Half Belt and regular Bootlegger are quite generous 50's cut patterns . As mentioned along with slimmer chest and shoulders the arm holes are a bit higher with a slimmer sleeve.
STF patterns can be ordered from Aero by request but you could also consider our newer Premier range and also Hooch Hauler/ Vincent

Hi Hide'n'seek, Thank you for this reply (and I am sorry I'm responding only now--I am travelling). This helps me understand what the STF is--and it sounds like you don't have to turn to Japan to source this fit.

So--would you say that the 1930's Half Belt and the Premier Highwayman are the equivalent of a Japanese STF?

As it happens, those two jacket models were the ones I am most drawn to!

Finally, it sounds like you are affiliated with Aero?

Thanks again! I can feel myself moving towards a new jacket (it would be only my second!)

I can’t reply for Aero but if you look at their stock’s jackets you will see there is not a big difference between an STF and a 1930s Half Belt :

STF :
Shoulders 17 inches
P2P 21,75 inches
Hem 20,75 inches

1930s :
Shoulders 16,75 inches
P2P 21,5 inches
Hem 20,50 inches

Hi Toutoun, Thank you for sending this comparison: you're right--these are aligned pretty closely!--and both are great looking jackets. From Aero, I think I prefer the 1930s Half Belt style--but it's good to know there are options!
