P. & C. Habig Wien Berlin "Spezial - Biber", possibly mid 1930s and a recent find. Made of "Echt Biber" Real Beaver Felt with a fine Smooth Finish. Medium width black Band with interesting Offset Bow. Off white Sweatband with a unique black and burnt orange Liner design.

P. & C. Habig Wien Paper Hat Holder that came with a P. & C. Habig Wien Berlin Stiff Felt, possibly 1920s. I found this Paper Hat Holder back in 2022.

Didn't realize they had such a tall crown. I may have to look for one now.
Its not as tall as some of my Resistol, Stetson and American Hat Co westerns, but as my Sidewinder is shaped currently, the sides are a full 5" and the center just barely kisses the pointy part of my head. When popped out to open crown it measures a full 6-1/2" tall crown. To me its a reasonably sized bigger hat. Cant remember what the original brim size was (3-1/4"?) but I trimmed this one down to 2-3/4"

Looking back at my selfie from this morning, it appears the bleak January weather is making me weary. I decided to perk up the day with this antique velour hat. Manufacturer's labels are no longer present but I am quite certain this hat was made by Anton Peschel and from the "made in Austria" mark on the original sweatband, likely before WWI - two decades before the AP for Oviatt's hat posted earlier this week. It has traveled through a number of esteemed hat collectors - retaining its original detached sweatband for historical reference but with the addition of a new ribbon by Art Fawcett and a new sweatband. The hand of the felt is remarkable, feeling like a hat made from fur rather than from felted fur. To wear it is warming for the head and for the soul.
