September is nigh... time to get my collection of montecristis out into the daylight. This Stetson branded hat is remarkable for its condition. All parts are supple and clean, a window to how it presented when first sold more than 80 years ago.

I keep buying boaters but I never seem to wear them. This is a Brooks Brothers made by Ponte Rialto in Italy.

To me, boaters are like seersucker suits: I like the idea of them much more that I like wearing them.

I agree! This hat reminds me of the hats Dana Andrews wore in “Laura” and “Where the Sidewalk Ends” as well as some other noir flicks he starred in.

Seeing that hat by Tim Mahovich on eBay yesterday made me feel like wearing my own today. It has a definite green tinge in the shade, but my camera can't capture it. Excellent felt.

I've never developed a love affair with Cavanagh hats. Each one I came across was just a little too heavy and conservatively styled for my taste. But one could always depend on them for quality and this Montecristi straw is no exception.
