Today, I will go live at 11am EST and begin by paying a small tribute to "Mr. Moose", the beloved four-legged companion of TFL member @RickP. Mr. Moose just recently passed away and I think I can safely speak for the rest of our TFL family when I say that he will truly be missed. Although Mr. Moose was a Chocolate Lab, I will choose to honor him today by wearing my Mallory Retriever Premier Quality and go into a little bit of history behind the historic Mallory hat brand. Pop in if you want to share any "Mr. Moose" stories, chat about Mallory, or anything else hat-related.
Just watched the video .. got to admit it got a little dusty in here. Two thumbs up!!! The Moose hat" from yesterday was one of the project hats that got here with about 1/2 the sweatband, all the tags missing. It has a western looking three strand ribbon, JBS hatpin and bound brim edge. More of a medium weight dress hat felt. Im guessing it started out4x from late 60s early 70s? The lambskin sweatband is one I sewed in... I like the lighter color sweatband

Sad news from East Texas this evening. Mr Moose the worlds best Chocolate Lab passed away tonight. Was having breathing trouble a couple days ago. We had an appt to get him looked at tomorrow. He started breathng hard this evening and then he just collapsed and was gone a minute or so later. At least we were together when the time came.

So sad Rick, Mr. Moose passed away in the company of his best friends. Hold onto that, he, and you, were sparred the awful decision of the vetinary's syringe.
"Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all" is a line from Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem, In Memoriam AAH. The saying suggests that the pain of loss is preferable to the emptiness of never having experienced love. Treasure his memory Rick

Seeking your indulgence as hat brain trust. This relates to Panama hats. I as some would have noticed tend to go for high crowns. I am 62cm in Akubra as I prefer a snug fit as windy in Tassie.

I am told a Panama should be a looser fit and sit on the top of the head to wick away moisture rather than be under a high crown.

Panamas are one hat I struggle to get a good fit outside the cowboy version which is a great fit though on another hat hating style forum they would consider it comical.

Oh and very sad we will not get Mr Moose photo bombs. I wore my chocolate colour hat as a sign of respect. My sister extremely tall black grey hound liked the look or then it might have been a chance of a scratch between the ears.

Thought Id pick something lightweight this morning.. Had a little trouble picking a color.

Started out with a well worn grey Knox 15

Then a couple of Champ Featherweights

And finally a favorite old Royal Stetson. About as Whippett-like as you can get without actually being a Whippett LOL. Love the straight crown on this one..... It DID win the "pick me" competition for the morning

Just heard that my college- Texas A&M University has signed a marketing agreement with Stetson to sell officially licensed A&M marked hats. Hoping that means halfway decent 6x or Pure hats. Being a dyed in the wool Texas Aggie Id prob buy something that actually had an Texas A&M embossed sweatband
