What hat are you waiting for today?

It's been 18 months since I bought my last hat (not counting a couple of beaters in SE Asia). I guess I'm pretty happy with my collection as is but every once in a while I still go on eBay and see what I can dig up.

I didn't have to dig long tonight before I ran into this Dobbs Fifteen for $49. Sold! I'm such a sucker for Fifteens!

The photos stink but boy this guy looks just about as clean as could be. Seller says it's a size 7 but provided no proof. I don't know what the brim size is, can't make out if it's a Guild Edge or a Dobbs Edge, and I am asking myself if that truly is a pink ribbon.

It will be an exciting unpack. Looks to be mid to late fifties, but I am not very knowledgeable in dating Dobbs.

Sweet looking Dobbs, Nathan! Great color combo too. The ribbon looks like a bronze hue to me. Similar colors to my Kings Umbrella. Nice score under 50!

Thanks Phill! Yes, you might be right about the colors - it might be close to your KU.

I am starting to remember how it feels to buy a hat... watching eBay for the day it finally ships, tracking it all over the country as USPS continues to miss the target, finally that jittery feeling on the day it's out for delivery... oh the joys of modern hat shopping! I had forgotten this....

I know whatcha mean. I'm waiting on one that shipped from Washington State. It got within 2 hours from me before it made it's way about 4 hours in the other direction. Maybe it'll be here tomorrow. It's a Knox homburg in black.

I'll be looking forward to seeing what you do with that Dobbs.

Waiting on an Akubra Federation IV from the hattery that was dispatched yesterday. While I wait I’m going through old posts and the internet in general for ideas for a decent but not showy crease and brim treatment.

I would have gone for the campdraft if it had been available in a colour I liked, and the proportions of the squatter seems a little wide and ‘squat’, so the fed was the closest to what I was looking for.

DAMN! We probably won't see you until 2026 (assuming you get this this month)! Enjoy.

Thanks Jeff! My wife is not aware of the full extent yet, so I might not make it to 2026.

Wow, Bob, some really nice auction wins there!

Thanks Steve! I knew you’d like one or two in the mix.

You can't go wrong with either a Campdraft or a Federation. I wish they'd do a hybrid of the two - basically the Fed with the brim-binding and wind trolley of the CD. Though what I *really* want the Hattery to do is a hot weather version of the Federation: same hat, but in hemp straw. That might challenge my beloved Stratoliners for Summer wear dominance...

Akubra do seem to have cut the colour range in some models. They have a UK stockist now, though they're even more limited: khaki earthtones or go home for them.
