Beads will turn a cloudy white as they dry out. But if they have a coloration to them, I might be concerned.I don't use the gel type, I trained crystal cat litter to 67% and add moisture maybe 2-3 times a month. The beads are in homemade nylon bags, and I just have them placed around inside my humis. What is the RH and Temp inside the humi right now?
If the RH and Temp are way up, you might even have mold on those beads my man....
JJWord said:Lightly muddy, the only way I can describe the color is like a weak chocolate milk. I'm familiar with the cloudy white you're talking about. I was going ~2 weeks between refills, letting them get whiteish and small/dehydrated enough that they will roll around freely if I shake the humidifier.
If my hygrometer is to be trusted, the humi in it now is 68%. I don't have a thermometer in it or near it, but I keep it in the basement so I'd guess its a steady 70 down there lately.

You have salt tested that hygrometer, yes?
