78s to refuse to have a migraine because I've got a three hour movie to preview by--

Starting off in 1929 with Nat Shilkret and the Victor Orchestra offering the hit tune from "The Broadway Melody," "You Were Meant For Me." Frank Luther on the vocal sounds rugged and manly compared to the simpy charm of Charles King in the movie. "I wrote it for YOU, Queenie!"

Next, ahead to 1933 for Bob Causer and his Cornellians -- one of the many pseudonyms for the ARC all-stars -- and a fine Chick Bullock vocal on "Now We're On Our Second Honeymoon." Dishes piled up in the sink and the cream spilled on the floor? Clean it up yourself, ya big bum.

Dance Mania by Tito Puente.

Last week the great conguero Francisco Aguabella passed away. I posted in the notable passings thread. I mistakenly wrote that Francisco played on the Tito Puente album “Dance Mania”. Though Francisco did play on many classic Puente records and wrote 2 of the tunes from Dance Mania, it was Ray Barretto that actually played conga on the record. (I didn’t bother to make the correction on the thread because nobody seemed to care).

Anyway, though the album has been in my collection for years I revisited it and in fact picked up the new legacy edition which not only contains the original 1958 Dance Mania record, but also the 1960 Vol. 2 follow-up, plus bonus tracks. It was worth buying it again to me just to get the instrumental version of one of my favorite songs, Estoy Siempre Junto A Ti.
