Oh I know I was just curious if anyone had seen any in person. I've gone through the entire 1920s section a few times. It may be unhealthy haha

cpdv, i've handled a couple of Victorian ones similar to those below, but don't own any. i'm guessing it's the late teens - early 20s ones you're interested in ?
they go all the way back to the Regency period frock coat.

I saw one at the San Francisco Vintage Fashion Expo this year. A dealer I always chat with had a set of mix-and-match daytime formal items all belonging to the same original owner. There was a solid black DB three-piece (dated '23, IIRC), a pair stripped formal trousers, and a black waist seam coat (don't remember the date on it, but it was from the same tailor for the same customer).

The construction quality on it all was exceedingly high, with no machine stitching that I could find. My guess is the original owner was some sort of French government worker or banker.

I like them for their distinctiveness. Or at least now a days they certainly are.

I have a waisted seam dinner jacket, or at least that's what I think it is, based mostly on the silk lapels. But there is no ****** pocket or button holes on the lapels. No dating, only tag is the neck strap that says "Elegante Massanfertigung". All buttons are covered. There are two *** pockets.

Might be so. It's hard to tell from the seams, but they do look a little sloppier than the rest.
