Vintage-y luggage?

Anyone know where to find some luggage sets that look vintage? I found some from the Ghurka (sp?) brand I believe but they're waaaay pricey!

They look lovely- just like my vintage ones I have in the garage that are way past thier best.

I have to use trolley cases on holiday though- I like to pack a lot of stuff and I'm not very strong.

Most luggage nowadays is so drab and boring. And so completely without any hint of vintage glamour it looks like camping gear. No offense to camping buffs, not knocking it, its just not what I'm looking for and I hate that it seems to be the only option available.

Is there anything else out there?

When me and my boy went to Paris last month we took vintage luggage and it was exhausting lugging it about whilst everyone around us zipped along with their little be-wheeled things! Next time we will at least buy one of those little trolley things that we can strap the vintage suitcases onto!

Here is the pile! The only thing that wasn't vintage was Mark's laptop bag (which is hiding behind the big suitcase).

These are even less expensive and are Czech. For the price, you cannot beat them, and use vintagetype materials as they did, in THE DAY.

Wow Paddy those suitcases are great, I've definitely got my eye on a large red case at £36 including postage, that's a great price.

But I agree with MissHannah that lugging around vintage luggage can be challenging, a nice trolley would be the solution.

This is my Samsonite Black Label, they do come up now and again on ebay.

The hatbox is awesome. I would buy and use that. But I have done total vintage luggage before (back in 2000) and never again. It's awkward, you can't pack as much in it and it's really not designed to be thrown around the way modern luggage is on planes etc. My old stuff almost wrecked my modern handling and cases.

I usually have a vintage looking piece of hand-luggage but use new stuff for my cases etc.

Looks like they may be out of stock. A person who reviewed them said they were smaller that she thought. I wouldn't mind a small one for hand luggage though.

Just a word regarding vintage suitcases - a number of years ago, I boarded a plane with a sweet little cherry red steel suitcase with a black Bakelite handle that was designed for children probably in the late 50's or early 60's. It was in pretty rough condition with some dents and all, but I loved that thing.

When I retrieved it from the luggage merry-go-round, it had broken locks and a tag on it saying they had to open it because the x-ray machine couldn't penetrate it. I managed to fix the locks, but please do be warned if you buy anything metal.

Exactly. That's why a lot of the 'new' vintage luggage with the old style locks have belted straps. So that you can leave the luggage unlocked but strap it up securely and they can still get into it when they need too.
