Our place sort of looked like the second pic today as my wife was prepping a couple dozen split white oak baskets to sell in our flea market booth and I was taking pics of several new hats. The Indian jewelry was a given...

Passed by this place on US route 78 in the town of Heflin, AL about halfway between Birmingham and Atlanta and had to pull in and check it out. The lack of functioning neon on the sign was obviously not hindering business in any way. One of the best chocolate malts in recent memory.

Even a barber! Wall Drug's got nothing on this place.

Reminds me of Mix's Trading Post down in Utica, IL, with a hodgepodge of just about every kind of roadside trinketry from biker gear, to knives/antiques, and even DIY leatherworks supplies. It's a must-stop every time I make a trip down to hike at Starved Rock State Park or Matthiessen State Park.

There's roadside attractions...and then there's ROADSIDE ATTRACTIONS...and nothing will get me to pull over faster than a giant dinosaur. This past weekend I found the original Goony Golf, opened in 1961, on old U.S. 11 in Chattanooga, TN.

Founded by Dutch McGrath, a traveling salesman who "borrowed" some ideas from a place in Florida called Goofy Golf, there were locations all over the Eastern U.S. by the mid 80s. Today only 3 remain... this one, one in Knoxville, TN, and one in Lake George, NY.
