I lack the espertise of our other members on dating suits but I think the suit looks quite good on you. The styling does look 'modern' to me in some of its details IMHO. Lengthen the sleeves and, if you share my tastes, have your tailor take in the waist a bit. A great find!

About the only thing I notice is the sleeve lengthening (it's more apparent in the second photo), but other than that, a great outfit.

Thanks for the advice. I'll most likely have the sleeves lengthened and perhaps have the waist tailored some. I too like the tighter fitted waist. As for the date of this suit, I'd say 1990's. The tag on the inside says "J. Riggings, est. 1969". Like I said, a modern (or perhaps postmodern) vintage-looking suit.

Lounge members have posted fashion plates of men's style that includes the 6x1 double breasted suits. Not sure how prevalent they were, but they did exist.

Go on and wear that suit. It looks great on ya.

I never said it was a bad thing, just from my understanding it's not as prevalent.

I may get flamed for this, but I don't think double breasteds look good on short or wide men.

Yeah, I was just wondering, didn't think it was a bad thing. I personally like 6x1 DB suits over 6x2. Don't know why for sure, just do. I'll most definately keep wearing it, like others have said here I think it looks great.
I think I agree with you about DB on shorter men. To my eyes they aren't as pleasing on shorter men as they are on taller, more slender guys. That's just my opinion, of course.

I prefer a 6x2 over the 6/1 but have both. It depends on how low the one button closes on the torso to either make or break the outfit for me.

I have a black orphaned 6x1 coat. I pretty much just bought it for the hell of it, should I need it for a costume or if my college could use it for that purpose. Here's a picture of me in it. (Do excuse the way-too-loosened tie.)

I think most lapels are cut that way now. It's nothing special, just a Jones New York jacket I picked up for a few dollars at a thrift store.
