That's Hoagy Carmichael- piano player in To Have and Have Not.
He was pretty well known in the Thirties and Forties.
Bonus Trivia: In Casino Royale, Ian Fleming describes James Bond as looking a little like Hoagy Carmichael. Pretty obscure reference these days.

But Flitcraft, USN Dungarees weren't bell-bottomed during WW2, that's a post-war thing. His are very similar to USN dungarees but (I noticed watching the film)they have copper rivets on the pocket corners- they're just 'some dungarees'- for that sea-faring workmanlike look I guess. I have some repros of the USN Dungarees and they're pretty damn kool actually- very vintage- got them from WWIIImpressions more than a few years back.

I guess Bellbottoms are a little impractical for working/fatigue uniform anyway.
I think the Bellbottom thing was a post-war thing and then it went away, not sure though. Bellbottoms are not the contemporary style in the USN are they?
I like the old dungarees- the high waist, wide straight leg and patch pockets- that's a real 'look'.
Next you'll be wanting the 'proper' chambray shirt too->

These are made by Buzz Rickson/Sugar Cane/Toyo Enterprise Co. and a little pricey- but I have one of these shirts and they're accurate to wartime cloth and style. Today's 'chambray' is a different animal. Chambray shirts are classic, vintage workwear anyway, not just USN specific.

Man, I definitely was born way too late! The USN chambray shirt is cool, but check out the dark denim one to the left!
They've also got the coolest denim jackets I've ever seen!
Man, get the navy denims from WWII Impressions, a nice pair of work boots and the chambray shirt and you're set! Wanna 'dress it up'? Just get a nice white shirt like Bogey in To Have and Have Not.
A great simple look that isn't sloppy.
Now that I'm blowing all my money on vintage clothing- what belt?

What Belt...?

A nice WW2 russet Garrison belt- match the service shoes, or maybe you prefer the Roughouts-
A nice plain, workmanlike brown leather belt, with a plain, cast brass, or nickel plate buckle. I have an M-1903 British Army belt, which is a nice colour, cast brass buckle and very plain and business-like.
Re: denim jackets- haven't you seen the Levis, Lee and Wrangler vintage re-issue jackets and jeans? Correct down to the smallest detail- well, they wouldn't fool the serious denim collector but almost-
And possibly cheaper than those Japanese ones- although, until recently all the vintage-repro Levi/Lee jeans were Japanese made.

My vintage denim closet is full of 'Levis Vintage'(repro)- a veritable classic back-catalogue- 1897-1947. I won't be buying any more, that's a lifetime's worth.

This denim may seem expensive- yes it is but it's relatively low volume and nothing like the stuff you find at the Mall. The denim is dead on accurate for the most part- different grades for different 'lots'. I'm told it's very difficult to find these vintage repro Levis/Lees in the USA, even through Levis-
the market for them is apparently bigger in Europe... go figure...
