Thoughts on RRL

RRL's version of the Navy G-1 leather jacket, seen here: https://www.ralphlauren.com/brands-...start=1&cgid=brands-double-rl-men-shop-all-cg

It is, at $2400 MSRP, so wildly overpriced as to place it the realm of exquisite custom-made jackets of similar type. All of such custom-made jackets will have the "correct" non-printed inner lining, and will usually be made of more expensive Goatskin. Frankly, a simple Repro G-1 with real Mouton collar, correct lining, and made of correct Goatskin can be found, with a little patience, on eBay, for perhaps 10% of RRL's asking price.

I agree to the above, even so their Peacoats (the wool versions) had been quiet nice, they are still on the "adding luxury tax" side...

I was in Japan over xmas and went into RRL, i wasnt a fan of anything, overpriced and felt cheap, even my wife commented that my Y2 leathers and other stores we went into, everything felt a higher quality than RRL.

RRL's quality is highly variant from item to item. Priced to be bought 40-60% off. No one comes close to their ranch cardigans though. Grab one of them on eBay or Japanese resale sites - heirloom piece.

Personally I would only buy RRL for the fit and deign not the quality.

If you find something there that you can't find anywhere else reasonably, why not? It's not the BEST quality but quality is just part of the equation.

I love the field chinos and the vintage 5 pocket jeans. They also have some very nice straight fit denim for women.

RRL looks great - Ralph Lauren in general is spot on from a design front. The value proposition isn't there though, even in comparison to the western prices of Japanese repro brands.

It's (mostly) outsourced production for MIJ, MIUSA, MIUK etc prices. The profit margin must be massive.

I do think the quality is good, albeit still below the Japanese repro brands. Given the scale that RL has, they are able to enforce higher standards for certain production lines such as RRL regardless of the factory location. RRL excels in vintage looking pieces that have more contemporary patterns/fit IMO. Whether that justifies the egregious price is up to the customer I guess.
