I'm watching The Russians are Coming! on TCM right now. Very funny movie, and it's the second time I've seen it in as many weeks. Classic comedy! Especially the drunk chasing the horse. I love it! :eusa_clap

And Jonathan Winters is a big favorite of mine. :)

A great film! So funny. It's not on the tele too often!

I remember when Alan Arkin says in his broken Russian, "emergency- everyone go to the street"!
And Tesse O'Shea is bound and gagged in a chair anhd has to go down a flight of stairs. Hysterical. The 'cold war' at it's funniest.

I was glad that Alan Arkin finally received a long overdue Oscar this year.
Too bad it was at the expense of Eddie Murphy, another true comic genius.

Now I'll really date myself...I saw this movie in the theater in the summer of 1966 (at age 15) when it was first released.

The combination of Alan Arkin, Carl Reiner and Jonathan Winters was sure to captivate the twisted mind of a 15 year old, and this one certainly delivered! Prairie Dog has already listed the best line from the movie..."Emergency...everybody to get from street". I think we went around yelling that for weeks!

It's still one of my favorite "modern" movies.

It’s a fun romp, screw ball comedy, a bit dated but still fun, almost a sequel to Its Mad, Mad World. I enjoy Alan Arkin’s character as the Russian sub captain.
I still remember him in Mike Nichols' Catch-22 when I was totaled out in 1971, it’s a great movie, I had to view it a number of times to fully appreciate, it now enjoys cult status.

I still mumble that to myself whenever I hear a siren.

"Vitaker Valt!" "We gotta get organized!"
And Carl Reiner and Tessie O'Shea bouncing up and down while ******* and gagged. I believe a small town on the Oregon coast was used as the "New England" location. I always wondered how good Theodore Bikel's Russian was (I believe he was a native speaker). Yes, I tend to get it tangled up with Mad Mad Mad World, which is also supposed to be on AMC soon, right?
And BTW, the correct pronunciation is "Emeergency, emeergency, everyvon to get frrrom stritt!"
