The BBC has revealed the costume of new Doctor Who, Matt Smith, for the 2010 series.

Reminds me a touch of Indy's 'professorial' garb... I do hope that's a real bow tie, not a pre-tied abomination. Overall, I think it looks good, though the trousers are a bit, eh.... Shoreditch, if you will. The overall look would have been infinitely better complemented by a pair of wider-legged trews, in a 50s cut, maybe with the ****ed ankle. Some doesn't look quite right to my eye with the skinnies in that shot.

Actually, Chucks usually have the logo on the INSIDE of the shoe, so if those are official Chuck Taylors the picture would be correct. I've always thought it was weird placement for a logo, bit there you are...

I agree about the trousers. However, the roll-up cuffs do show off those cool boots, and it keeps the legs free for running up and down corridors and through quarries .

But they need not be genuine Chucks, anyway.

For some reason I had the feeling that they put it on the inside ankle as maybe a "wear" spot that gets more punishment? My theory has no basis in any scientific evidence though.

On one of the linked articles there is a photo that shows the inside of the shoe and it's just a white circle. Like you said I've never seen any fakers that put their logo there, just the originals. It's just funny that they go to the trouble (if even just a little) not to give free advertising to a product that is immediately recognizable.

I have read in a number of places it referred to as an "ankle protector" - maybe to stop the ankles being banged together on the b-ball court? [huh] From a design point of view, I agree entirely, it looks a bit 'wrong'. I always preferred the PF Flyer approach of having the logos on the outer ankle.

There are pretty strict rules here in the UK when it comes to product palcement on television, so it may have something to do with that... though that said, I don't recall them ever doing that with Tennant's Converse. [huh] Oh.... in an early scene in Grease, when the boys are reclining on the bleachers (prior to going into Summer Nights), it's very clearly visible that half of them are wearing converse, and that the logo has been painted out, leaving only a big, white circle on their inner ankles.

Very few men can wear a bow tie without looking naff. Smith isn't one of these. The rest of the outfit is okay but you can just hear the wardrobe discussions.. "he needs to wear something classic but it must have a young twist to it and be hip in a scholarly kind of way.." I give it 7 out of 10.
