The approach of the first day of pitchers and catchers is quite literally the only thing that keeps us going thru the long New England winters. The day the equipment truck leaves Fenway Park for Florida in early February is actually a celebrated holiday. Truck Day is the only day in the year when everybody in New England is in a good mood.

Miss the old days when there were just the Six Teams (New York, Montreal, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, and Boston). Now it seems as if 2/3 of the league is in the playoffs. At this point, the standings of the regular season become largely irrelevant.

I learned that word from Sargent Shultz on "Hogan's Heroes," he always wanted a little "schnaps," usually for letting the prisoners get away with something.
