Here's another comparison, my new BGG Campdraft with my 1960s Stetson 3x. The 3x is not technically an Open Road but meets the same dimensions as older ORs. Also, these two hats have the same measurements. Not surprisingly. Neither of these hats has had a crease yet.

Interesting to see the difference in what companies consider Silverbelly. My Stetson Open Road 6x is a true silverbelly color, while my Akubra Campdraft is more of a tan color, not quite fawn. I know each hat is different, even within the same company. I'm happy for the differences, it would be hard to explain to my wife why I bought two hats that looked the same. Both hats are new.

Funny you say that - did the photo catch her peeping around the corner to see what you were up to with those hats? And don't dare try the "you have more shoes than I have hats" argument with her; that never turned out well for me.

I don't argue with her, she's always right. She keeps a close eye on my hat buying too.

If you flatten the brim by pressing out some of the flange or cup it will break up the contour line in the back that you don't like. I will also lower the brim a bit in appearance on the back of your head. You will want to do that all the way around the brim. Leave just the beginning of a cup or curl in the brim out near the binding to retain the OR look (you can't eliminate that anyway).

I use the wooden back of a clothes brush which just happens to be shaped like a bar of soap, contoured & the right size. With enough pressure you can sometimes do this dry but it will work better with a bit of steam or a misting bottle. You're pressing & moving the felt around a bit. From the topside always work in a counterclockwise direction.

I think the hat sits you well, not to high or to low on the ears just the way you have it. Looks good!
