Org: It's too bad that hole, like their flower holes, are keyholed. They've gotten better about that lately though.

I quite like the keyhole buttonholes. Many german jackets from the golden era have such hole-work.

They're fine for actual buttons, but not so great for lapel flowerholes. I don't think it'd look very good for holding a watch chain either.

I'm with Jovan on this one--not a fan of the keyhole for buttonholes that don't have buttons.

My new Jos. A Banks DB has keyholes on both lapels, which I'm not wildly pleased with. But I can live with it for a $150 suit that fits well.

Indeed. It looks so much cleaner, besides the functionality argument. There are some Neopolitan tailors that maintain it is correct, however. Personally, even if I got a functional buttonhole on the underside of a sportcoat lapel, I'd still get the lapel hole straight. I have one with this, and it works fine and looks clean when not in use.
