I believe it is actual suede versus roughout because there is not a smooth side. The suede hide is think and robust though, so not sure that it would have been fully split but rather maybe just the smooth side removed. It is hard wearing and robust without being too stiff.

Thanks for the info, seems like it would be solid then which is always one of my concerns when going for these types of suedes.
