I got those Herring leather and linen spectators made by Cheaney a few weeks ago. They are breaking in nicely. Really the nicest pair of shoes I've owned, nicer than Emling, Alen Edmunds etc.

I wanted to say thank for all the Loungers who gave me excellent advice on these shoes!

I am having a pair of dress boots made for me on a 30's 'very' chiseled box toe last. These are the uppers. The shoes will have an oak tanned spade sole.

Interesting - may I ask how much they will cost you?

Well it'll be quite some time before I can afford another pair. But I can still plan ahead of time Practically it should be a nice pair of brown bluchers/derbies, but those boots they have keep singing a siren song...

Take a peek at the shoe pictures posted in the "getting my wardrobe off the ground", that I took at one of the vintage shops here where I live, down town. Shoes are from the early 1900's and all actually are in very nice shape, one pair of shoes from 1940....but they get things in the shop all the time...have a good incoming supply of things....

Probably all works and the beautiful dovetailed shoe box is worth it alone.

Are they being made by Carmina or in Finland sproily?

Not sure what I think of these...picked them up in a thrift store today.
Unknown maker and sold at the Hudson's Bay stores in Canada.
Picked them up because a) I dont have a pair of 'buckle shoes' b) they were $6 c) Made in England and seem to be fairly well made d) they fit like a glove (so to speak).
Any comments? Guess at the maker, approx age? Would a good polishing help, or do I need to try and strip the old polish off?
