No wheeling marks on the new AE shells. How disappointing. Spoils the look.

Makes it look much better luxurious. No wheeling makes a shoo look cheap.

lt's just another step cut out of the shoemaking process. Once a company starts cutting steps it will all go down hill from there. What is next?...fiber board insole?...rubber welting? Give it time and the mid range of shoos will disappear; only highend and low will be there in the end. No-one wants to pay $500 for shoos anymore because they are brought up in the cheapness mentality spoiled by made-in-China, and only a few will pay for highend, so one day the mid range will go in traditional footwear.

They are special order. Done on the #1 last and with a single oak sole. I asked them to cut the edge close with no wheeling because I dance and extra sole means less utility... more trip ability. It's better the way I did it.

I had a full day out around the Shire visiting several charity/thrift shops, end result two fairly modern but much needed dress shirts for New Years eve and two pair of shoes, first up are these leather upper and soled 'slip on's' no idea of maker or origin as no markings still visible, not sure of the age but I don't think they're that old but I am thinking as a summer shoe with a linen suit they are very soft and supple;

next up is a pair of J Brown brogues, they need a new heel but the leather is quite supple with no splits or cracking to the leather;

as I said the heels needs renewing and one side on the very edge of the sole is split for about 1 1/2" between the layers which should be an easy repair?

Luckily both pair are in my size which is nominally 8 to 8 1/2 UK so both are keepers

Those are corrected grain/binder leather BTW hence the fine cracks in the creases. The crinkles/creases will be permanent and difficult to adapt to you feet for that reason.

I got these old Edwin Clapps (my first pair) recently on ebay. I had to apply some elbow grease and some new laces, but they cleaned up nicely and fit well.
