I did some modeling for my parent's, they made the choker I am wearing.

Hi, I'm new to the lounge, and have been waiting to post pics of a view vintage 'dos.


The first is for a recital(I was singing Gershwin) and I went for a 50s look. In the photo is also my very first vintage compact.

The second is from a production of "The Bald Soprano" I was in, that was set in the 40s. Please forgive the janky looking left roll, it was knocked out of my hair by my in show husband

Vintage hairdos can be tricky.not hard persay....just tricky. You can do some beautiful styles with a curling iron and a Bobby pin. That top pic of mine wasjust spiral curls with an iron all around,fluffed and teased and pinned with a few hobbies.

Get the girl a snood and your halfway there!

Hi splintercellsz, I would have your girl start out by looking at this lady's YouTube video

She does a lot of very simple pin up looking hair and then works her way into more "complicated" styles. There are a lot of pin-up how-to's on YouTube but this gal was my go-to when I was easing my way into wearing vintage styles. I did the same thing, brushed up the sides and twisted and pushed them forward for those side pomp looks. I would also recommend her looking into tutorials using bandanas and snoods, as those are pretty easy to use when most of the hair is just covered up. Hot irons and hot sticks are good to getting used to having curls, but they do not hold the curl very long like a wet set will do. Practice, practice. I wish her good luck, it's frustrating at first, but she will have loads of fun as she learns!

Antje, your beehive is just lovely! I've tried that look once but had problems with the front and sides since I don't have bangs. I envy how easy you make it sound.

Just a couple of photos that have been waiting to be uploaded. I've been getting into a routine of doing some rather simple vintage updos since it's been humid here so I feel like most of the time I am wasting my time trying to get a good set out of curls.

I am getting so much better with rolls so victory rolls with curls arranged in the middle and the rest in the back down and wavy has been a constant:

I tried finger waves again but this time I set them the night before and slept with the duckbill clips in. For the most part, it worked out, but the one side didn't hold very well when it came to brushing out, which I blame on my sleeping position and the fact that I don't think I had the waves set very well so that noticeable crimp was there while drying.

The back was pinned up low to the nape of the neck.
