Last week I located the Parker manual.
These Doufolds fountain pens from that time period are somewhat similar to starting a 20s Ford in a way.
Manual breaks down parts, description
for smooth operation which is something
I enjoy.
I found at local art shop, that Quink
ink is still available.
Reason I mentioned this is because
Quink is not as toxic as modern inks
and does not clog the internal rubber ink sac.
Next on the agenda is original Quink
bottle.

Having recently discovered that making a necktie is not exactly rocket surgery, I came across this lot of patterns and remnants that arrived today.



I was tickled to find that many of the scraps are still big enough to get a tie out of, others I might get a blade or two and use an alternate fabric for the rest, or they could end up as bow ties. It's gorgeous material, would have been worth the 25 bucks just to get it out and look at once in a while. A few were of the subtly graduated stripes you find in ties of the '20s. Also included were a healthy swath of lining material, four strips already cut out, a fair bit of plain satin bemberg material (presumably for tips but which I could also use as lining in other sewing projects), and one complete tie (the green paisley one in the last picture).

Once in a while, Ebay really comes through with a unique, beautiful thing for less than a months rent on a studio apartment.

Something that means a lot to me: the flag insignia of the F. Laeisz shipping company. The company is known for its "Flying P-Line" of sailing ships. (I also have two photo postcards of two of the ships: Pamir and Passat that I got years ago.)

I bought this type of vase (1) after coming across it in some for article on wedding decor. I immediately liked it because I thought it had a design that would fit easily into 19th c. - 1920s styles. So I went on a hunt for this particular type of vase and learned that it is an Avon vase from the 1970s, which I thought was interesting given the design.

Around the same time I got that vase, I also bought an Art Deco style one for my kitchen table.

Both of them were a bit over $10/each with the shipping included.

Somewhat of a recent purchase. I wanted a nautical keychain for my only lonely key, but wound up coming across a vintage NDL keychain, which works just as well. It was more tarnished when I got it, but just through use shined up nice.

A friend gave me a stack of vintage sheet music some time back. I put a couple of them in cheap frames from Michael’s. They’re now hanging in my short-term rental unit.

Just acquired the extremely hard to find and oldest model of the Old Spice shaving mug gift box and it dates between 1938 and 1941. Because it was originally made and screen printed on a paper-thin wood veneer in Japan, this box type was no longer produced once World War II began.
The original wood veneer was printed with 5 different ships. The Ship Grand Turk adorns the top, while the Ship Mt. Vernon, Brig. Experiment, Ship Friendship, and Ship Recovery appear on the four sides. Although the veneer is as thin as paper, you can see the pores and grain. The bottom of the box has a label affixed. Once the wood veneer was screen printed in Japan it was sent to the Shulton plant where it was folded and glued to the cardboard boxes.
To recreate the Colonial America feel Shulton partnered with The A.E. Hull Pottery Company in Crooksville, Ohio. In adopting its "Early American" theme, the Hull Pottery Company fashioned these heavy pottery mugs with primitive looking paint-stamped graphics and were designed to mimic Early American household pottery. The look and feel was intentionally rustic. (It is very difficult to find these without any crazing to the finish today.)
The original Hull Pottery Mug “Ship Grand Turk” was sold in the veneer box from 1938 until 1941. The boxed Friendship mug 1941 to 1944. These mugs included 5.5 ounces of soap. Mine still has a nice strong scent!

After December 1941, the lithographed wood veneer was no longer available from Japan so a screened paper overlay was attached to the cardboard box from 1942 until 1956. Its color is a mottled yellow with a pebbly texture in an attempt to simulate wood. The graphics and ship designs are identical to the first box. My example shows damage from paper bugs. (Probably booklice or silverfish.)
(In 1948, the soap cake was reduced to 5.0 ounces.)
Box Size: 7-2/8 x 6 x 3-5/8 inches.
