Really like this design. Puts me in mind of a crossbreed between a Schott 184SM and a Perfecto type. Definitely a jacket I could fancy.

The versions with the rear zip pocket at the back are interesting - I wonder if that design could be adapted to slip in a back protector?

Here is a first edition Appalachian Tanned and Tailored “Map Pocket” motorcycle jacket that I was lucky to stumble across. It came by way of a vintage shop in Arkansas. I had also purchased an old black 1940s era cowboy hat in the sale.

Nice condition for its age - all original zippers, lining, stud work. Late 1940s talon main zipper, United Carr branded snaps, cotton lining similar to the earliest Buco. Features the iconic map pockets in front and back (the back pocket spans the entire back panel).

The pockets are made of heavier cotton drill type materials. The horsehide is mid-weight and surprisingly easy wearing compared to the hefty jackets of this era. Makes for a more versatile jacket IMO.

The fit is super cool, tailored but comfortable to wear. Overall just a beautiful and rare early example of this jacket.
